DOUG KLAUBA- ARTIST
An award-winning illustrator, Douglas Klauba has created cover artwork for books featuring such famous characters as Kolchak: The Night Stalker, Doc Savage, The Avenger, The Spider, Zorro and The Phantom, among others. His work is recognized for his dramatic use of lighting in a heroic-deco style influenced by pulp magazine art and retro movie poster illustration and has earned him acclaim from collectors and clients around the world.
In addition to his publishing work for companies including Harper-Collins, Image Comics, Dynamite Entertainment, American Fantasy Press, Radio Archives, Moonstone Books and DC Comics/Upper Deck, Klauba is a highly sought-after commercial illustrator. He counts among his clients The Field Museum, The Bradford Exchange, Paramount Parks, Bosch, Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Bears and the Joffrey Ballet just to name a few. For the Project Superpowers Chapter 2 series from Dynamite Entertainment, Alex Ross selected Doug to collaborate on a series of 2 page origins of golden age heroes that included The Black Terror, The Death Defying Devil, The Flame, Masquerade and many others.
Doug's paintings have been included in the art annuals of Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art, the Society of Illustrators, and Imagine FX magazine. His painting, Mercury Jack exhibited in the Spectrum Show at the Museum of American Illustration and another of his paintings, Da Vinci's Dream was awarded Best in Show at the 2005 World Fantasy Convention. A poster of his painting Stella 7 is hanging on Howard Wolowitz's bedroom wall on the hit television show, The Big Bang Theory.
