NEW YOUNGPULP TITLE COMING SOON FROM PRO SE PRODUCTIONS-'GHOSTS OF DERIDIAN'

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, a leading Genre Fiction and New Pulp Publisher, debuted its Young Reader Imprint, YOUNGPULP, earlier this year.  Pro Se announces today that the second title in this line focused on younger readers and fans of Genre Fiction will debut in the coming weeks.

GHOSTS OF DERIDIAN by Morgan Minor and Tommy Hancock is the first book in a new Science Fiction series for ages 12 and up.  The story involves two teenagers- Ferren Niles, known as ‘The Terror of the Valley, a human orphan and former slave now living on the streets of the cityplanet of Deridian and Sajay, a future Matriarch of the much feared Asini,  an insectoid race of legendary and ruthless conquerors.  Thrown together by accident, the two stand accused of murdering one of the nearly mythical Deridi, the cityplanet’s native race and current rulers.  Together, the two climb to the highest point and dive into the filth of the cityplanet, desperate to stay alive as they encounter GHOSTS OF DERIDIAN.

Sajay_Niles_FINAL_ARTa.jpg

“This book,” Tommy Hancock, co creator as well as Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, says, “may be aimed at a younger audience, but is action packed and fast paced enough for any fan of good pulpy Science Fiction.  They might be teenagers, but Sajay and Niles each have unique aspects about them, both as species and as individuals, that make this so much more than a ‘misfit buddy’ story.  The level of depth and emotion that riddles this book, which in a lot of ways is really one gigantic chase scene, startled me as we wrote it.   I am as proud of this book and the story these two characters live as  I am of anything I’ve ever written.”

GHOSTS OF DERIDIAN is the first of a trilogy featuring Sajay and Niles.  Minor and Hancock are also working on a novel focused on the pair as adults ten years after the events depicted in GHOSTS.

“There are themes,” Morgan Minor, co creator states, “of all sorts throughout this book and they all run right alongside the adventure.  Diversity, for instance.  It's something common that we see every day. And with Sajay and Niles, you've got a whole heaping handful. One young Asini woman, brought up to know her place has escaped onto a planet known for it's cruelty and malice--and the other, a young man, striving to survive in a situation equally as hostile and unwelcoming to a native. These two band together to do the unthinkable—survive together on a planet where everyone wants them dead.”

Featuring a beautifully rendered cover by Jeff Hayes, GHOSTS OF DERIDIAN is scheduled for tentative release in November.

'THE BONE QUEEN' RISES FROM SHORT STORY INTO HER OWN DIGEST NOVEL

Pro Se

In 2011, Pro Se Productions, now a leading publisher of New Pulp and Genre Fiction, debuted a new character initially as a live spokesmodel to promote both the company and New Pulp in general-The Pulptress. Proving popular in the New Pulp Community, the Pulptress appeared in her own volume of adventures by various writers in 2012.  One story and one character besides The Pulptress within that volume in particular captured the minds, tongues, and hearts of fans so completely that she now comes to life in her own digest novel.

The Bone Queen_cover1ab.jpg

Pro Se Productions proudly announces the upcoming release of THE BONE QUEEN, a digest novel by Andrea Judy.  Judy, a contributor to the original THE ADVENTURES OF THE PULPTRESS collection, titled that short story ‘The Bone Queen’, but the new book is something more.  It is that most hallowed of stories-The Bone Queen’s origin.

The Bone Queen-Strangely exotic, absolutely disturbing.  A woman who, although hauntingly beautiful in some respects, is also horrifying, much of her upper torso missing and bone exposed.  A Practitioner of Death itself, able to bring the Undead to Unholy Life by consuming their bones, The Bone Queen stands as a formidable archenemy to The Pulptress.  But who was she before Fate ripped away her flesh and committed to her a most terrible, awesome destiny?  Andrea Judy takes readers back to the beginning for this enigmatic character in THE BONE QUEEN.

I’ve always loved the villains in a story,” says Judy, “so I was thrilled to have the chance to tell a story from a darker point of view, showing the reader where a villain came from. It was a struggle at times to write, to remember that this wasn't a story about light overcoming the dark, but about embracing that darkness. I’ve had an amazing time working with Pro Se getting this book together, and I’m thrilled to share it with the world!”

THE BONE QUEEN is the first of two digest novels set in the Pulptress’ world that Judy will write.  The second, due out in 2014, will focus on the second meeting of Judy’s villainess and the Pulptress, a follow up to the initial short story.

THE BONE QUEEN, featuring an absolutely gorgeous cover by Ariane Soares, an artist with Fitztown,  is currently scheduled for release in November 2013.

NEW DIGEST NOVEL SERIES DEBUTS FROM PRO SE-THE FIRST SYNN: THE BLOODSTONE CONFIDENTIAL

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, a leader in New Pulp and Genre Fiction, gladly commits THE FIRST SYNN: THE BLOODSTONE CONFIDENTIAL, the first of a new series of supernatural pulp thrillers by noted award winning author Teel James Glenn. Complete with chills and thrills harkening back to the classic Pulps, THE FIRST SYNN introduces the first sibling duo in Pulp history, ready to take on whatever horror flies their way! From Teel James Glenn and Pro Se Productions- THE FIRST SYNN: THE BLOODSTONE CONFIDENTIAL!

“There’s absolutely nothing,” says Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se, Tommy Hancock, “like a good Pulpy supernatural thriller! Especially one with a strong duo in the lead.  THE FIRST SYNN has all the markings of a classic Pulp tale, even borrowing quite a bit from classic cliffhanger serials, but what really makes this story work is the way that TJ works the words he writes.  Each phrase turns just right and the description brings all the fear and daring do to life.”

The Bloody Curse of the Vampire!  Years ago Gideon Synn tried to save Faith Bloodstone from a deadly family curse in upstate New York. He failed and Faith died at the hands of a mysterious blood drinking fiend. Synn ran from his failure and became a world traveler, joining the French Foreign Legion and eventually becoming a mercenary in China.

Now, years later he has opened a security firm with his sister Kathy. Charity Bloodstone, Faith’s younger sister, comes to him for help against the same curse—the supposed vampire ghost of her ancestor, Justice Bloodstone! According to legend, Charity has only one week to live!

Several people have been killed by what appears to be the undead Justice in ways that suggest a supernatural cause. The Synn siblings are drawn into a whirlwind of terror and evil as the mystery of the vampire murders comes closer and closer to fulfilling the curse.

Has Gideon found love with Charity only to lose her to dark forces? Who are the armed thugs that have attacked the siblings? Can Kathy Synn keep her brother out of trouble long enough to solve the mystery of the Bloodstone Confidential?

Featuring a chillingly atmospheric cover by Adam Shaw and book design and formatting by Sean Ali and ebook formatting by Russ Anderson, THE FIRST SYNN is a hit with reviewers-

“Another adventure straight out of an RKO serial.  Anyone who likes those old black and white movies will enjoy this story. The descriptions, the language, the styleit’s all there.  A good entry into Author Glenn’s booklist. Looking forward to book #2. Keep ‘em coming, TJ!”- Toni Sweeney, Book Reviewer

“THE BLOODSTONE CONFIDENTIAL is a nice entry into this book series. Hopefully, Glenn can come up with enough clever plots and enemies to throw at Synn for numerous further adventures.” —Bruce Grossman, www.bookgasm.com

THE NEW ADVENTURES OF THE GREEN GHOST DEBUTS FROM PULP OBSCURA! BLASTING FROM THE PAST TO TODAY!

Pro Se

A Leading Publisher in New Pulp and Genre Fiction, Pro Se Productions in conjunction with Altus Press continues to bring Lost and Nearly Forgotten Characters from the Classic Days of Pulp to Today with its Pulp Obscura imprint.  The newest Volume spotlights a Cop Done Wrong seeking justice the only way he can get it- Behind a Mask!  Pulp Obscura Presents THE NEW ADVENTURES OF THE GREEN GHOST!

An invention of Zorro creator Johnston McCulley, the Green Ghost is secretly Dany Blaney, an honest police officer who was framed by criminals and then disgraced by his fellow officers. Acquitted by a jury and dismissed by the police, Danny, as the Green Ghost, plays a dangerous game as he confounds cops and criminals in his unique crusade for justice!

“The Green Ghost,” Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of and Partner In Pro Se Productions, explains, “is in many ways a typical McCulley and even Pulp character.  A heroic figure who, due to some tragedy in his past as well as an unerring sense to see justice done.  One of the unique things about The Green Ghost, though, is even in the original stories there’s a different sense than with most Pulp heroes. There’s a tension, an anxiety in Danny Blaney because he’s been disgraced by the criminals and disavowed by the law.  So, there’s more than just the need for wrong to be made right.  He’s proving himself to himself that he’s good enough to enforce the law and not what anyone says about him.  That’s a significant aspect of the character and one that the writers in THE NEW ADVENTURES OF THE GREEN GHOST have captured well right in amongst the mystery and action.”

From out of the past, a Mysterious Masked Manhunter Returns to Wage One Man War Against The Forces of the Underworld as He Evades the Forces of the Law! With a stunning cover by Mike Fyles as well as design and print formatting by Sean Ali and Ebook formatting by Russ Anderson, THE NEW ADVENTURES OF THE GREEN GHOST features three tales of fast moving mystery and thrills by Bobby Nash, Don Thomas, and Terry Alexander.

PRO SE DEBUTS 'MONUMENTS OF DOOM'- NEW PULP ACTION BY AUTHOR JERRY KOKICH

Pro Se

From Pro Se Productions, the leader in New Pulp and Genre Fiction, and the creative mind of Author Jerry Kokich explodes the debut adventure of Michael Gordon, The Occultist!  MONUMENTS OF DOOM brings the breathtaking action and nail biting adventure of classic Pulps and movie serials screaming into New Pulp today.

“It’s wonderful,” states Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “to get a brand new story that both feels like it should have been published 80 years ago in a Pulp magazine, but also has the freshness of today all over it.  Jerry’s MONUMENTS OF DOOM has everything that any fan of Pulp looks for.  The plot moves like lightning, the characters spring off the page, and the premise…it’s just…Yeah, this is why we publish New Pulp.”

In the book, Michael Gordon once loved Aurelia Desantis, until she discovered ancient mystical rites of immense power in an archeological dig in Mexico. Gordon realized then just how dangerous she really was. Upon their return to the United States, he told their superiors, his actions leading to her expulsion from the University of Chicago. That day, Aurelia Desantis vowed her traitorous lover would pay.

Years later... New Year's Eve, 1939.  A statue suddenly comes to life and carves a bloody swath through unsuspecting revelers. A cryptic note arrives at police headquarters, and Michael Gordon, now an occult researcher and advisor to law enforcement, realizes the worst.

Aurelia has returned, bent on revenge.

Using her arcane powers to animate lifeless statues, she uses them to turn New York into a slaughterhouse, knowing only Michael Gordon has the knowledge to combat her monstrous creations.

But, will he use the same deadly rites and incantations, risking his very soul, to stop Aurelia? Can he go down the same dark path without succumbing to the temptations that drove his former lover to madness?

Michael Gordon has no choice as he prepares to face MONUMENTS OF DOOM!

“I'm so excited,” Author Kokich says, “about Tommy Hancock and Pro Se publishing "Monuments of Doom"! When I was first writing the short story the novel is based on, walking around New York late at night, taking notes on various statues and locations, I never thought it would wind up as a full-fledged book. I actually wrote a screenplay after the short story, and used some elements from that to flesh out the final novel. Maybe some Hollywood producer will run across this, and it will have yet another life on the big screen!”

Headshot.jpg

Jerry Kokich was born in New York into a theatrical family. Both his parents were Broadway performers, so he grew up surrounded by actors, singers and dancers. Jerry was a hockey player in high school, but actually wound up dancing for The Joffrey Ballet for 8 years (that's a story for another book). Moving to Los Angeles after retiring from dance, Jerry has appeared on a number of TV shows and in films, and has written and produced two successful web series. MONUMENTS OF DOOM is his first solo effort as a novelist. His favorite writer, and a big inspiration, is Clive Cussler.

MONUMENTS OF DOOM is available in print for $9.00 on Amazon at http://tinyurl.com/lvjm5qs or at Pro Se’s own store at http://tinyurl.com/lad97vt.  The digest novel is also available as an Ebook for $2.99 for the Nook at http://tinyurl.com/ldpfd2v and for most digital formats at http://tinyurl.com/m3roqhy.  Coming soon to the Kindle!

A stalwart hero, a seductive mad villainess, and murderous living statues.  Everything an over the top two fisted Pulp tale needs. Fight alongside Gordon as he battles against MONUMENTS OF DOOM by Jerry Kokich. Featuring a stunning cover by Terry Pavlet.  MONUMENTS OF DOOM from Pro Se Productions!

AUTHOR LOGAN L. MASTERSON BRINGS LOVECRAFTIAN SUSPENSE TO PRO SE

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, a leading Publisher of New Pulp and Genre Fiction, adds Lovecraftian suspense and horror to its upcoming titles with the signing of author Logan L. Masterson.  Masterson, an author living in Nashville, Tennessee, brings his own touch and talent to Pulp and Horror with his upcoming novella RAVENCROFT SPRINGS.

“Horror and suspense,” Tommy Hancock, Pro Se’s Editor in Chief and Partner in the company states, “is an area Pro Se’s gone to before, both in our magazines and our books.  Logan’s voice, though, combined with the Lovecraftian Mythos that permeates his story, is unique. Not only amongst Pro Se’s writers, but to the genre of horror suspense as a whole.  Both relaxed and intense, his style of writing invites the reader in and then grabs hold of their throat before they can run away.  That makes great story and I’m glad Pro Se has it and Logan.”

1llm_portrait.jpg

Born in southern Missouri, and traveling the American southwest throughout his early life, Masterson became rooted in ideas rather than places. Having developed an early fascination for words, the writing process is not second nature, but first.

“There is nothing so vital, so alive,” Masterson says,  “so beautiful in my eyes as the transformation a blank page into an informative article or imaginative fiction, and thence into a thought completely new to the reader. Poetry, lyrics, fantasies and imageries are my stock-in-trade. My tools are intuition, observation, vocabulary and rhythm. Well, those and a good word processor.

“If the product of my fancies should become meaningful to an eight-year-old or an octogenarian, my work is validated and my purpose fulfilled. Enlightenment is worth striving for, but smiles and tears are no mean feat.  My world is a place of wonders, where words are magic and anything is possible. It’s also a place of darkness: good things happen to bad people and the best intentions can go terribly awry.”

RAVENCROFT SPRINGS is a character-driven Lovecraftian suspense novella set in the mysterious, ancient hill country of East Tennessee and scheduled to debut from Pro Se Productions in 2014.

BLASTING OUT OF BLACK PULP FROM PRO SE-CHRISTOPHER CHAMBERS' ROCKET CROCKETT NOVELLA DEBUTS IN 2014

Pro Se

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BLASTING OUT OF BLACK PULP FROM PRO SE PRODUCTIONS!

CHRISTOPHER CHAMBERS' ROCKET CROCKETT NOVELLA DEBUTS IN 2014

BP FC low res.jpg

Pro Se Productions, a leader in Genre Fiction and New Pulp, released BLACK PULP earlier this year to rave reviews.  Now, Pro Se announces the first of many of the characters found in the pages of this groundbreaking collection continuing beyond BLACK PULP into their own individual adventures.  Author Christopher Chambers aviator hero, Rocket Crockett, will fly once more in 2014 in his own digest novel.

ROCKET CROCKETT AND THE SHANGHAI SHE-DEVIL by Chambers features the return of Korean War Navy aviator and jet ace Rufus “Rocket” Crockett and his sidekick Bonelip Broussard. The duo, weary of the roiling South China Sea and fiery orchids of Commie anti-aircraft bursts, are treated to a month’s liberty, stateside. But home’s only a bucket of evil memories for Rocket, and soon he takes the first thing smokin’ to Harlem, USA, where young Willie Mays’ Giants battle Brooklyn’s Jackie Robinson. Yet even this mecca isn’t the Harlem of Rocket’s vacations from running touchdowns in college and romancing high yella honeys. The white ties, spats and top hats are gone…replaced by the reefer man, rent strikes and that brown powder the Jazz men and newly minted Rock n Rollers call “smack.” The source is a chain of dingy chop suey stands owned by the only person feared by street gangs, the Mob—even the Chinese and North Koreans: The Shanghai She-Devil. And she has a score to settle with Rocket Crockett.

 Author Christopher Chambers

 Author Christopher Chambers

“Rocket Crockett,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of and Partner in Pro Se, “is as straight up Pulp as you can get.   Christopher takes a Pulp standard, puts his own spin on it, and places him in a War that many writers don’t Pulp in. Crockett has his own distinctive voice, and not simply because he’s a black character, although that informs the story tremendously.   Crockett is a man in a world that doesn’t make sense, one that he doesn’t necessarily care for, and one that offers him all sorts of chances to go wrong.  And each time, Crockett chooses the path that makes him a hero.  Pro Se is more than proud to add Christopher Chambers and Rocket Crockett to our New Pulp line up.”

Concerning his creation being considered a Pulp character, Chambers states, "Pulp isn't schlock or stupid. Pulp is there to give you a belly laugh or a snicker, or shriek of terror or a growl of passion. Pulp is the seed that gave you the top films and TV shows of the 20th and this century. Rocket Crockett is homage to that seed."

Christopher Chambers is a Professor of Communications at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and the author of Angela Bivens thrillers for Random House. He also co-edited the iconic The Darker Mask: Heroes from the Shadows collection. He is a PEN Malamud short story finalist.

ROCKET CROCKETT AND THE SHANGHAI SHE-DEVIL will debut in 2014 from Pro Se Productions.

Rocket Crockett’s Debut in BLACK PULP is available via Amazon in print as well as other online and retail outlets. Also available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Smashwords as an Ebook.

AUTHOR I.A. WATSON TAKES READERS ‘WHERE STORIES DWELL’ -- COMING SOON FROM PRO SE PRODUCTIONS

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, a leader in Genre Fiction and New Pulp publishing, announces today plans for the first volume in its newest imprint, PULP STUDIES.  Noted New Pulp Author I. A. Watson analyzes and discusses interesting and often unknown points of history, fiction, and more in a collection of essays that, as the title suggests, looks at sources of the tales that fascinate us as well as provide inspiration for future storytelling.

Author I. A. Watson

Author I. A. Watson

“WHERE STORIES DWELL,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of and Partner in Pro Se Productions, “is one of the coolest projects I’ve been involved with in a while.  As well as an author/publisher/etc., I am also an avid researcher and historian by both trade (researcher mostly) and education (historian).  So, Pro Se eventually having a line that looks at New Pulp as well as other aspects of Genre Fiction from a more academic/research and reference approach was just bound to happen.  And when I. A. Watson began sharing his vast, esoteric knowledge of cool and obscure facts and legends on a mailing list we’re both on, it was kismetor fateor just really good luck for me and Pro Se.”

WHERE STORIES DWELL is a collection of thirty five essays written by Watson covering a broad span of topics.  As he carries the reader from distant land to great battlefields, Watson also discusses story structure, how to end tales, how to use what where, and most of all, endeavors to fulfill the title- to show readers indeed where stories dwell, where ideas can come from and his own insight on how to present them.

The volume will feature such an assortment of subjects and spotlight several events, tales, and more.  From the book itself, the following list illuminates the nature and breadth of the work-

“Starring:

The Duke of Marlborough, swashbuckler, soldier, adventurer, and ladies’ man

Medea of Colchis, seductive sorceress and woman scorned

Eleanor of Aquitaine, the most powerful woman in Europe

Brutus Giantslayer, who overcame Gog and Magog to found a nation

William Paget, Earl of Uxbridge, and especially his right leg

Princess Enheduanna, High Priestess of the Moon Goddess Nanna

William the Conqueror, a bastard by name, birth, and nature

Sir Francis Dashwood, wicked master of the wicked Hell Fire Club

King Arthur Pendragon, rightwise born King of All Britain

Kings Henry II, IV, V, and VIII, who average to King Henry IV¾, plus a guest Edward

Rhodopis of the Stolen Slipper, a damsel in distress with familiar problems

Acting Major William Martin, a Royal Marine who died before he was ever born

Inspector-General James Barry MD, a military surgeon who never existed at all

Spring-Heeled Jack, fire-breathing iron-clawed terror of the night

The Lone Ranger and Tonto

With a full cast of gods, monarchs, smiths, Celts, Hussites, supervillains, sacrificial virgins, Londoners, knights, heretics, lighthouse-keepers, Methodists, spectral hounds, Loathly Ladies, pulp writers, revolutionaries, spies, and souvenir-vendors to match all tastes.”

“It's not opposable thumbs that raise us above the animals - it's that we tell stories,” states Watson. “We use words to make sense of the world, even to define it. When you look at it like that, tales are the most important things in creation. So, a book of stories about stories should make me emperor of the universe, right? That makes WHERE STORIES DWELL my first major bid for world domination. Everyone should buy it before I come to power, because (a) it explains how Cinderella built the pyramids, (b) it describes the left leg that ended a war between England and France and almost started another, (c) everyone need an analysis of William the Conqueror's love life whether they realize it or not, and (d) it's good to suck up to your future overlord."

I. A. Watson is probably a warning to others. He won an award at the Ilkley Literature Festival at thirteen. His first play was staged when he was sixteen. Then he discovered girls. It took him a quarter of a century after that to get round to publishing his first novel, ROBIN HOOD: KING OF SHERWOOD. He’s done more since, including ROBIN HOOD: ARROW OF JUSTICE, ROBIN HOOD: FREEDOM’S OUTLAW, BLACKTHORN: DYNASTY OF MARS, and BLACKTHORN: SPIRES OF MARS, but he’s starting to realize it won’t make him sixteen again.

Watson lives in Yorkshire, England, from which he sends out lengthy diatribes on obscure historical trivia and contributes to a lot of anthologies, including THE NEW ADVENTURES OF RICHARD KNIGHT, BLOOD-PRICE OF THE MISSIONARY’S GOLD – THE NEW ADVENTURES OF ARMLESS O’NEIL, GIDEON CAIN, DEMON HUNTER, SINBAD, THE NEW VOYAGES, MONSTER EARTH, BLACKTHORN: THUNDER ON MARS, THE SPIDER: EXTREME PREJUDICE, and six volumes of SHERLOCK HOLMES: CONSULTING DETECTIVE. If you really want the full list and some free stuff it’s on his website at http://www.chillwater.org.uk/writing/iawatsonhome.htm .

Watson has won awards, including Best Pulp Short story, and award nominations including three for Best Pulp Novel, but his most treasured review was the lady who described his latest novel as “a cheap slutty adventure book”.

The book is tentatively slated for release in late 2013/early 2014.

PRO SE PRODUCTIONS SIGNS FANTASY AUTHOR

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, a leader in New Pulp and Genre Fiction, announces today the signing of a new Author who brings with her a four book Fantasy series.  Pro Se Productions welcomes Kayla Larson to its already stellar cast of creators.

kaylapic.jpg

Born in California but raised in Arkansas, Kayla Larson is the classic small town girl known for her tomboyish nature and passion for animals. Living in a close-knit community has strengthened her values, especially toward her family.

Larson has been writing most of her life. A bookworm at a young age, she grew into the art and passion of story telling, starting with short stories and later creating novels and writing fanfiction. She has written many poems, and has also written skits and newspaper articles for school and the local media. She takes inspiration from many authors, and even holds dear an autographed photo of her favorite author, Dean Koontz. She enjoys fantasies, science-fiction, westerns, and mysteries, anything that can whisk her away to another world.  When Larson is not spending time with her family or taking inspiration from the world outside, she can be found in her little house writing away her next creation, enjoying life.

“The Fantasy genre,” says Pro Se Partner and Editor in Chief Tommy Hancock, “is not only extremely popular, but it’s extremely fluid and vibrant.   What makes Kayla’s work stand out is her voice is very naturally Pulp, very visceral, very action centered, and very focused on characterization between sword thrusts and battle cries.   She builds an engaging world in the opening paragraphs of her work and populates it with figures and people we want to see work their way through the maelstrom ahead.   Her series, beginning with THE WOLF WARRIORS, is definitely a good fit at Pro Se.”

The Four books in Larson’s series will be THE WOLF WARRIORS, DARKNESS AND LIGHT, THE NECROMANCER’S GAME, and ARDETH’S WAR. The first volume is scheduled for release in 2014.

COVER ARTIST RAYMOND LEONARD JOINS PRO SE!

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions proudly announces the addition of a new cover artist to its staff of creators.  Raymond Leonard brings his own unique style to Pro Se in its continuing efforts to provide the best in New Pulp and Genre Fiction.

raymondleonard.jpg

Raymond Leonard from Chicago, Illinois is an American comic book artist, writer and publisher best known for his work on M-Studios comic Nyssa and his own series, Guytron. His first published art work was characters pin-up for Epoch Publications as an intern. Under the training of Michael McClain of Epoch Publications, Leonard eventually moved over to Mr. McClain’s M-Studios. In the next few years, Raymond completed various assignments for M-Studio's Nyssa anthology series.  He also made a name for himself at comic shows. In 2007, Silver Tips Comics hired him as a pin-up artist.  Raymond has been published under M-Studios Creator-owned Presents books as well. His own series, Guytron, is a creator-owned property and under his own Daydream imprint along with his now current creator owned webcomic Agent Solo.

“Our writers,” Tommy Hancock, Pro Se’s Editor in Chief and Partner in the company, “are a kaleidoscopic crew, each writing in their own voice. This demands certain art styles for certain covers.  Raymond brings both a familiar, yet different sort of vibe to his art.  Although his work is obviously reminiscent of comic covers, he definitely has the sense of what makes a good cover stand out, regardless of what’s inside the book.  His covers will be fun and eye catching, particularly for our super hero/costumed characters works, an area he’s definitely familiar with.”

VILLAINS TAKE OVER IN LATEST ANTHOLOGY FROM PRO SE PRODUCTIONS

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, known for innovative Genre Fiction and New Pulp, throws the spotlight on those in the shadows, the other half of every great story- The Villain-in BLACK FEDORA, the company’s latest digest anthology.

Welcome to the dark side. BLACK FEDORA holds stories where the hero is the villain and one person's crime is another person's glory. Get ready to step out of the light and take a tour of various underworlds with three tales that give a steely-eyed look at what secrets lurk beneath the BLACK FEDORA.

This exciting anthology consists of tales by B. C. Bell, Phillip Drayer Duncan, and Kevin Paul Shaw Broden and a stunning cover by the best Pulp Artist today, Douglas Klauba! Edited by Brad Mendel and Mark Beaulieu with cover design and print formatting by Sean Ali and Ebook formatting by Russ Anderson, BLACK FEDORA is so good it's criminal.

“Villains,” Tommy Hancock, Pro Se Productions’ Editor in Chief and Partner in the company, states, “fascinate us. Since the beginning of storytelling, no tale is complete without the bad guy or gal.  They capture our imagination so much that we have this almost insatiable need to turn them into the hero, even going as far as justifying the villain’s actions.   From penny dreadfuls that made Billy the Kid an upstanding defender of widows and orphans to the almost fanatical fandom for types such as J. R. Ewing, villains speak to all of us.”

“In Pulp, though, the Villain didn’t necessarily ascend to Hero status.  From Fu Manchu to Doctor Death (both of them), the villain, though he may have stated reasons his cause was just, was a bad guy.  That’s what BLACK FEDORA is all about.  Yes, it brings the evildoer to the forefront, but it doesn’t strip the character of its purpose, of its design.  The bad guys in these pages are as bad as they come.  Fortunately we have their stories told by three of the best writers in Genre Fiction today.  This collection at least allows us all to vicariously cheer for the villain and for a little while wear the BLACK FEDORA.”

From Pro Se Productions, the leader in cutting edge New Pulp and Genre Fiction.

Get your print copy of BLACK FEDORA at Amazon and or at Pro Se’s site at http://prose-press.com/pro-se-store/.  The volume is also available as an Ebook at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and in nearly all formats at www.smashwords.com.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

B.C. Bell writes Crime, Horror, Science, and Pulp Fiction. His short story “How Pappy Got Five Acres Back and Calvin Stayed on the Farm,” is an SFReader.com Award Winner. His first novel, TALES OF THE BAGMAN is a roaring 1930’s pulp thriller about a mobster forced to don a mask. His latest, BIPOLAR EXPRESS is the story of mentally ill men trying to survive, sometimes humorously, sometimes savagely in an abandoned city as the magnetic poles switch. Bell has written adventures for many pulp heroes, including The Avenger, Secret Agent X, and Dan Fowler G-Man.  Bell lives in Chicago (and occasionally shows up for readings). Look him up on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/B.C.Bell.Writes) or his blog (http://www.chicagobagman.blogspot.com).

Phillip Drayer Duncan was born in Eureka Springs, Arkansas and has spent most of his life in the Ozarks. He currently resides in Anderson, Missouri. Along with reading and writing like a madman, his passions include kayakin, canoein, fishin, shootin, video games, and pretty much anything nerd related.  His greatest dream in life is to become a Jedi, but since that hasn’t happened yet, he focuses on writing. His earliest books were written on notebooks, and acted out with action figures.  For more information about Phillip Drayer Duncan go to

Kevin Paul Shaw Broden, while seeking a career in comic books, took art courses throughout his education only to eventually discover that no matter the media he was a storyteller.  Kevin has been telling stories ever since. For over the last ten years Kevin has been illustrating and co-writing the online comic book FLYING GLORY AND THE HOUNDS OF GLORY which can be found at http://www.flying-glory.com.  His first novel was CLOCKWORK GENIE – a blend of fantasy, romance, and murder mystery.  It was quickly followed by REVENGE OF THE MASKED GHOST – about a masked mystery man in the style of the 1930s pulp novels.

PRO SE PRODUCTIONS SIGNS FANTASY AUTHOR J.H. FLEMING

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, a leading independent publisher in New Pulp and Genre Fiction announces today the signing of a bright new voice in Fantasy Fiction- author J. H. Fleming.

DSC01294.jpg

J H. Fleming has written all of her life. She used to write poems and songs as a child and started writing stories seriously in the 9th grade. She was the type of kid who made up stories and gave parts to all the other kids, and then they acted them out, with her as lead and director. She pursued creative writing in college and received a Bachelor's degree in 2011. While in college she had a play produced and had her first publication soon after she graduated.

Fleming has been published with Visionary Tongue and Evil Girlfriend Media thus far, with two more stories accepted by Seventh Star Press and Mocha Memoirs Press.

J. H. is very passionate about reading. She owns about 700 books and has read most of them. She has always been attracted to fantasy and supernatural stories, and this is reflected in everything she enjoys. Her pastimes include video games, anime, learning French and piano, and singing.

Fleming is obsessed with The Lord of the Rings and has a replica of the One Ring that she wears on special occasions. She is reserved, preferring to be left alone in her hobbit hole to concoct stories in peace. She has three "kids," a Yorkie named Mona and two turtles named Frodo and Idril.

“Pro Se has a reputation,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se, “of bringing new talents out into the light and hitting a mark with readers.  This is especially true with our forays into Fantasy Fiction.  J. H. Fleming is a startling talented voice, bringing a soft, sharp subtlety to Fantasy that very few can match.   Finding the balance between action and story comes naturally to her and Pro Se is very proud to be her new home.”

DSC01171.jpg

J. H. Fleming’s first work with Pro Se will be a story collection entitled LIFTING THE VEIL: TALES OF DISCOVERY AND MAGIC and will debut from Pro Se in the coming months. Other works from Fleming will debut from Pro Se in 2014 and hopefully beyond.
