PRO SE PRODUCTIONS’ YOUNGPULP IMPRINT DEBUTS ‘THE ADVENTURES OF PEABODY RICH’ BY DONNA SMITH

Pro Se

An independent publisher of cutting edge Genre Fiction, Pro Se Productions announces the print release of the latest title from its Youngpulp! imprint- THE ADVENTURES OF PEABODY RICH!

“It’s absolutely cool,” Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of and Partner in Pro Se Productions says, “to be able to bring such great concepts as THE ADVENTURES OF PEABODY RICH to young readers as well as adult readers alike.  Donna creates this really neat character and drops him right into the middle of an adventure that tests every skill he has and even requires abilities unique to him in the story.  And to have this book written by a teacher, one who involved students in the writing process with her the whole way, makes THE ADVENTURES OF PEABODY RICH an even better addition to YoungPulp!”

Peabody Rich is a boy with an unusual problem; he remembers everything he sees. When his mentor is attacked on the Wartley University campus near Washington, D.C., Peabody and his friends are unknowingly put in danger. With their parents out of the country on business and their sitter in jail for attempted murder, Peabody and his friends must use his “gifts” to unravel a clue and find his mentor’s attackers. They must avoid the police finding out they are on their own, outsmart school and museum officials, and outrun thugs in a high speed chase through Washington, D.C. to get to the bottom of what’s been going on at Wartley University.

Little do they know that while they are hunting for answers, Tobias is hunting for them.

THE ADVENTURES OF PEABODY RICH by Donna Smith is a part of Pro Se Productions Youngpulp! imprint. NEW PULP PUBLISHER OPENS SUBMISSIONS FOR ANTHOLOGY INVITING WRITERS TO BE ‘RUNYONESQUE’.

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, a Publisher of New Pulp and Genre Fiction, announces a call for submissions today for an anthology honoring one of America’s most loved authors. Damon Runyon crafted a New York and Broadway all his own, replete with colorful characters and a criminal Underworld like no other throughout his writing career, so much so that a word was created to identify when a story was told in the style of Runyon. And Pro Se Productions now asks writers to submit proposals to its anthology of such tales- RUNYONESQUE.

Author Damon Runyon

Author Damon Runyon

“Damon Runyon,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se, “did more than simply influence and inspire ‘Guys and Dolls.’ His extremely clever use of dialogue- mingling formal speak with slang of the period- made each of his stories sing with their own melody. His ability to create characters that were somehow simultaneously over the top yet still down to earth endeared him to readers of all stripes, including the very New York types that he included in the stories. But I think the greatest thing about Runyon’s work is his seamless marriage of two different literary worlds- that of crime and gangsters, the shadier side of New York and Broadway wedded perfectly with the human interest story, replete with pathos and humor, gats and dames notwithstanding.”

RUNYONESQUE will feature stories written in the style of Damon Runyon’s original works as well as within the period depicted in Runyon’s tales, roughly 1920-1940. The stories accepted for this volume will not feature characters or cite situations created by Runyon, but rather original characters created by the authors involved in stories very much in the style Runyon created. An online reference for Runyon’s work can be found at http://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks11/1100651h.html

Stories for RUNYONESQUE must be 10,000 words in length. A proposal of 100-500 words must be submitted to submissions@prose-press.com. Authors not previously published by Pro Se Productions must submit a writing sample of at least two pages with their proposals. Authors whose proposals are accepted must submit the first four pages of their accepted stories as quickly as possible for review by Pro Se staff. Final deadline for completed stories is 90 days following acceptance of proposals.

RUNYONESQUE is scheduled for publication in 2015 by Pro Se Productions.

Pro Se

Known for bringing great Genre Fiction to broader audiences, Pro Se Productions announces the release of an omnibus of three novels featuring Maxim Gunn, a popular troubleshooter of all things normal and supernatural, as written by creator Nicholas Boving.  Pro Se Productions Presents MAXIM GUNN: THE FIRST THREE.

“Maxim Gunn,” says Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions Tommy Hancock, “is a character that is a ready made fit for Pro Se.  Nick has taken the best of a few genres and woven them together and out steps Gunn, this suave, reckless, brilliant bastard of a hero that leaves his enemies stacked up like kindling and readers begging for more.”

Think about a man: suave, hard, devil-may-care, an ex-agent, the best that ever was. Call him MAXIM GUNN. Think about the dark realms, the hidden corners, the places where things lurk, things that live only in our imaginations, things that just should not be. Think about priceless jewels with unearthly powers, demons controlled by computers and psychotic madmen who want to rule the world. Think about a man who walks into trouble and says, “Into battle, murder and sudden death, good Lord, deliver me, right up to the neck.” Some agents may have a license to kill, but Maxim Gunn doesn’t need one. Gunn is the weapon of last resort. When they’ve run out of options, they call him back. No debates, no hand wringing, just get it done. And he does.

MAXIM GUNN: THE FIRST THREE is an omnibus collecting the first three novels featuring the larger than life man of intrigue created by Nicholas Boving. Presented in this special edition by Pro Se Productions, this omnibus is the first of two, marking Pro Se as the new home for Boving’s modern Pulp hero. Thrill as if it were the first time to Gunn’s first three adventures- THE CHAOS PROJECT, THE DEMON PLAN, and THE SERPENT FORCE- in one collection. MAXIM GUNN: THE FIRST THREE by Nicholas Boving from Pro Se Productions.

Featuring a fantastic cover by Arianne Soares with Fitztown and formatting and design by Ken Janssens and Sean Ali, MAXIM GUNN: THE FIRST THREE is available now at Amazon and Pro Se’s own store at http://tinyurl.com/l23kefn for $18.00.  The omnibus is also available as an ebook formatted and designed by Russ Anderson for the amazing price of $2.99 at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and www.smashwords.com.

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, a cutting edge publisher of Genre Fiction, announces a submissions call today for an anthology featuring a star spangled character that first fought for truth and justice in Comic Books. Due to a licensing agreement with Heroic Publishing, a well known independent comic book publisher, Pro Se Productions invites authors to submit proposals for LIBERTY GIRL: FIGHT FOR FREEDOM!

Liberty Girl Art by Jeff Hayes

Liberty Girl Art by Jeff Hayes

“Pro Se’s first ‘Liberty Girl’ digest novel,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of and Partner in Pro Se Productions, “was a tour de force by Barry Reese.  That story not only brought to prose the original adventure debuting Liberty Girl, but also set the stage for new stories based on a truly great character.  Not only is the character a strong female, but she holds the unique position of being a patriotic icon in her world, a representation of the best of America.  And when not only her country, but the very concept of freedom is threatened, Liberty Girl may find herself with only one option.  And that is what this anthology will explore.”

Stories for LIBERTY GIRL: FIGHT FOR FREEDOM must be 10,000 words in length and must center around the theme suggested in the subtitle.  Be it an alien invasion, a kidnapping of a bus full of bowling nuns, or the capture of Liberty Girl herself, the stories for this collection must deal directly with someone’s freedom being compromised or threatened, placing Liberty Girl in the position to defend and battle for freedom, literally and/or figuratively.

A proposal of 100-500 words must be submitted to submissions@prose-press.com.  Authors not previously published by Pro Se Productions must submit a writing sample of at least two pages with their proposals. Both Heroic Publishing and Pro Se Productions will approve these proposals before acceptance.

Authors whose proposals are accepted must submit the first four pages of their accepted stories as quickly as possible for review by Pro Se and Heroic staffFinal deadline for completed stories is 90 days following acceptance of proposals.

LIBERTY GIRL: FIGHT FOR FREEDOM is scheduled for publication in late 2014/Early 2015 from Pro Se Productions.

SECOND CALL FOR ARTICLES FOR ‘WHAT IS NEW PULP?’ FROM PRO SE PRODUCTIONS

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, an independent Publisher of Genre Fiction and one of the founding members of what is known as The New Pulp Movement, renews a call for submissions to a book in its PULPSTUDIES line.   Announced in 2013, WHAT IS NEW PULP? is to feature articles, essays, and other related material as submitted by interested authors, researchers, and fans that discuss, analyze, and even debate what the term NEW PULP means as it relates to Pulp Fiction, how to define it, and even if such a term is necessary.

“New Pulp,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “is a term and topic that has stirred up quite a discussion for the last few years, particularly the last four or so.  Some call it a genre, others call it a style, some say it doesn’t exist, still others see it as a travesty against Classic Pulp.  Regardless of your viewpoint, we are inviting writers to submit articles and essays on the subject from any angle they wish to tackle it for this collection.  We don’t expect this book to end the internet arguments or solve the mystery about New Pulp.  We just know that the discussion is not only worth having, but worth preserving and sharing with others.”

Submissions to WHAT IS NEW PULP have no length restrictions and will be reviewed for inclusion in the collection by Pro Se Staff.  Authors wishing to submit are encouraged to provide articles founded in analysis and research rather than simple emotion, but all submitted articles will be considered.  Deadline for proposals and/or submissions is July 1, 2014.  If enough articles have not been accepted by that point, then this collection will be cancelled and all work submitted for it thus far will be returned to the appropriate authors.

CALL OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS FOR PRO SE’S FORAY INTO ‘SHUDDER PULP’!

Pro Se

Known as a leading publisher of New Pulp, Pro Se Productions announces a call for submissions today for an anthology that harkens back to a genre popular in the Golden Age of Pulp Fiction.  Bizarre villains, horrific crimes, and brutal torture typified what many refer to as ‘weird menace’ stories. Now, Pro Se invites writers to try their hand at  this classic Pulp trope in its latest anthology- SHUDDER PULP.

“Horror,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of and Partner in Pro Se Productions, “is a genre that has thrilled and chilled fans since the first stories about monsters and men were told around campfires way back when.  It reached a high point, many fans believe, in the era of the Shudder Pulps. Tales that aimed to terrify as well as enthrall readers with action and over the top storylines reached brand new highs- or lows, depending on your point of view- in the 1930s with the development and popularity of the Weird Menace sort of tales.  And even though the horror genre has gone a variety of other directions since, there is still something about the formula of those classic Pulp tales that makes doing SHUDDER PULP exciting.”

The formula for stories that would fit into SHUDDER PULP may include an extremely malevolent villain, be it a scientist, supernatural being, etc., with a plot to bring horrible evil upon the world.  Also, stories usually include a hero/heroine who has to not only uncover the plot of his/her nemesis, but also must save someone from horrific, unimaginable torture at the hands of the villain.  Cults, high tech threats that seem to be supernatural and archaic, torture, murder, and sadistic acts calculated to scare readers, with a decent dose of heroic action and mystery thrown in, can all also be a part of stories for this anthology.

One requirement for SHUDDER PULP is that all elements of the stories must be original and created by the author. Public domain characters or concepts, such as the Lovecraftian mythos, are not to be a part of the submitted stories.  The stories must be completely original.

Stories for SHUDDER PULP must be 10,000 words in length.

SHUDDER PULP is scheduled for publication in 2015 by Pro Se Productions.

PRO SE PRODUCTIONS HOLDS OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS TO ANTHOLOGY THAT TAKES READERS ‘BACK TO OZ’!

Pro Se

An independent publisher of Genre Fiction, Pro Se Productions announces today an open call for submissions for a new anthology set in a land that has thrilled generations of children and adults for over a century. Pro Se Productions invites creators to take a trip BACK TO OZ!

“It amazes me,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se, “how many requests we get a month for Pro Se to do an Oz book. It’s actually a thought I’ve had for awhile, being a fan of the wildly inventive and exciting world that L. Frank Baum took his own children, then the rest of us since, to with words full of his own personal childhood wonder. And although many readers will definitely recall the film version of Oz or maybe even some of the more recent, rather interesting takes on Baum’s work, BACK TO OZ will follow the yellow brick road right behind the original fourteen books.”

BACK TO OZ will feature stories utilizing only the material from L. Frank Baum’s original 14 Oz books. Authors may introduce new characters into the mythos, but any characters created in later versions of non Baum Oz books cannot be used. Also, although authors are not encouraged to mimic or mock Baum’s style, the stories must be written in the same flavor as the original tales. Only elements that were present or indicated in the original fourteen books will be allowed.

“So many books,” continues Hancock, “in the last several years about Oz have taken alternative views. ‘What if Oz was ravaged by war?’ or ‘What if Oz was really this dystopian hell?’ and so forth. Although there is a place for those sort of tales, maybe even at Pro Se, that place isn’t this anthology. In BACK TO OZ, we want readers to rediscover why they fell in love with Baum’s books originally and we want to see writers tackle one of the greats and do it justice. And don’t think that that means these have to be stories that only children will enjoy. Oz is one of those lands of lore that thrill all ages.”

Stories for BACK TO OZ must be 10,000 words in length.

PRO SE PRODUCTIONS DEBUTS LATEST NOVEL-TAKE A TRIP TO HORROR IN RAVENCROFT SPRINGS BY LOGAN L. MASTERSON

Pro Se

Nothing is quite what it seems on Unaka Mountain. And Pro Se Productions invites you on a Lovecraftian thrill ride to find out for yourself in RAVENCROFT SPRINGS by Logan L. Masterson, the latest novel to debut from the cutting edge publisher of Genre Fiction.

“RAVENCROFT SPRINGS,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of and Partner in Pro Se Productions, “is unlike anything we have yet to publish. First, it can clearly be classified as a Lovecraftian tale. Some other Pro Se works have been ‘touched’ by that famous mythos, most assuredly, but Logan’s debut novel most definitely wears its Lovecraftian badge with pride. Also, RAVENCROFT SPRINGS does something in this type of tale that makes it stand out. Although action and horror bring the story to life, the search for oneself, for that next step in one’s life, and the fearful possibility of who might be a part of the next phase or that there may not even be one, all of that is explored in this book. And not in an off handed manner, but with a deft touch and a sensitive approach. Logan definitely brings humanity to the forefront as both something cherished and easily lost in RAVENCROFT SPRINGS.”

RAVENCROFT SPRINGS tells the tale of David Dunbarton, a man in need of a change. Following the unexpected success of his first novel and subsequent destruction of his marriage, David wanted somewhere nice and quiet to settle down. He wanted to surround himself with art, not people, and just maybe get to work on his next book. To that end, Dunbarton finds himself on Unaka Mountain and in the town of Ravencroft Springs.

The abandoned hotels and homes of Ravencroft Springs decay in silent dignity. When Dunbarton relocates in hopes of breathing life into the town and himself, the mysterious village draws him in, leading him down mist laden streets where he finds arcane secrets and bizarre townsfolk. Leading him ever closer to the Secret of Unaka.

“This book,” says Masterson, “was a joy to write. It allowed me to incorporate elements of Lovecraft mythos, my own personal history and experience, and a peculiar outlook on life. The opportunity to publish RAVENCROFT SPRINGS with Pro se Press has been fabulous. I got a great cover, great editing support, and look forward to hearing readers' and critics' reactions to my debut digest novel.”

Featuring a fantastic cover by Adam Shaw with logo and print design by Percival Constantine, RAVENCROFT SPRINGS is now available via Amazon and Pro Se’s own store athttp://tinyurl.com/p7uzk7n for $9.00. The new digest novel is also available as an Ebook with formatting and design by Russ Anderson at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, andwww.smashwords.com for $2.99.

Pro Se Productions presents RAVENCROFT SPRINGS by Logan L. Masterson. A Lovecraftian tale of suspense set in the ancient Appalachian Mountains of East Tennessee, Ravencroft Springs is also a tale of desperate love and unrequited fate, both monstrous and moving all at once.

PULP OBSCURA PRESENTS THE NEW ADVENTURES OF MAJOR LACY AND AMUSEMENT, INC!

Pro Se

An independent publisher of cutting edge Genre Fiction, Pro Se Productions announces the debut of the latest volume in one of its most popular imprints.  In 2012, Pro Se, in conjunction with Altus Press, a renowned publisher of quality reprints of classic Pulps as well as New Pulp, began Pulp Obscura, a line of anthologies and books that featured classic, often forgotten pulp characters in new tales by today’s best writers.  And the most recent volume has also been one of the most anticipated of the imprint- THE NEW ADVENTURES OF MAJOR LACY AND AMUSEMENT, INC.!

Pulp Obscura,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of and Partner in Pro Se Productions, “has definitely been a feather in Pro Se’s cap.  While Altus publishes the original adventures of these obscure pulp –hence the imprint’s name-characters featured in the line, Pro Se has endeavored to breathe new life into heroes that once peopled the newsstands of the early 20th Century.  A rather ambitious project from the start in intent and scope, it has taken some of the originally planned volumes longer than expected to come together in just the right way. But I am proud to say that the wait has been well worth it with THE NEW ADVENTURES OF MAJOR LACY AND AMUSEMENT, INC.”

Major John Tatersall Lacy, known to his mysterious benefactors as Mr. Sunday, returns in new adventures leading an amazing fighting force, Amusement, Inc. in a war against the Underworld.

Created by Theodore A. Tinsley, Amusement, Inc. is a group of former Marines who bring their considerable talents and military tactics to bear in a new battle-- the war on crime. The group is funded by six mysterious men who make up the Emergency Council to Combat Crime and keep their identities hidden behind codenames based on the days of the week. Taking the codename Mr. Sunday, Major Lacy leads Amusement, Inc. in the field and is assisted by three trusted aides. Together they lead their small army in an ongoing mission- to bring the battle for the law and justice to those who rule the Underworld and WIN!

“This volume,” says Hancock, “presented us with a rather unique opportunity.  The original series of stories ended on a sort of cliffhanger and the first volume in THE NEW ADVENTURES, penned by award winning author Bobby Nash, picks up literally where the final classic story left off.  And Amusement, Inc. definitely continues to have all the action and adventure Pulp fans enjoy in all the stories that follow.”

From out of the Past comes new tales of one of Pulp's Greatest Citizen Soldiers written by Bobby Nash, Jim Beard, R. P. Steeves, David White, Andrew Salmon, and Don Thomas. Featuring stunning artwork by Mike Fyles, THE NEW ADVENTURES OF MAJOR LACY AND AMUSEMENT, INC.! is available on Amazon and at Pro Se’s own store at http://tinyurl.com/oekkw4g for $12.00 in a print edition formatted and designed by Sean Ali.

This latest Pulp Obscura volume is also available as an ebook designed and formatted by Russ Anderson for $2.99 via Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and www.smashwords.com.

PRO SE PRODUCTIONS DUBS MAY ‘PRO SE OPEN MONTH’-A NEW OPEN ANTHOLOGY CALL ANNOUNCED PER DAY

Pro Se

A leading publisher of Genre Fiction and New Pulp, Pro Se Productions announces today that the company has designated the month of May 2014 as ‘Pro Se Open Month’.  The Pro Se Open is Pro Se’s list of anthologies that the company opens up for submission from authors. Each title remains ‘Open’ on the list until enough submissions are accepted to fill out the desired number of stories for each title.

“Anthologies,” says Tommy Hancock, Pro Se Productions Editor in Chief and Partner in the company, “are what make an independent press move.  Not only do a variety of writers come into the Pro Se community because of these collections, but we also discover creators and often characters who are ready for their own spotlight as well in our digest novel or full sized (trade paperback) lines.”

Beginning May 1, Pro Se will announce a new open call for a different anthology every day of the month as a part of The Pro Se Open.  These anthologies will cover a gamut of genres and will vary in size.  Some will be calls for three stories to fill a digest anthology, others will call for six stories to fill a full sized anthology.  The anthologies are scheduled to be published between May 2014 and June 2016 and most, if not all, will be published based on the acceptance and completion of stories by those who submit.

“It may seem,” says Hancock, “strange to do so many calls with such a wide margin for production, but there is a method to the mad genius at work here.  We have learned in doing anthologies over the last few years that sometimes they come together like lightning in a bottle, but many times getting the right set of stories together and in at the same time is extremely difficult, what with the way real life likes to muck with everyone’s deadlines.  So, it’s a bit of ‘okay, we’re going to give time where time may be needed’ going on.  Also, Pro Se’s publishing calendar fills up so quickly- we’re already discussing closing submissions for 2016 before the end of this year- that we wanted to make sure we had slots built in for the sort of stories and collections we want to read and see in the hands of fans.”

There are provisions in place if any of the anthologies do not fill, yet stories are accepted and submitted, according to Hancock.  All stories accepted and submitted to Pro Se will be used in some format if the anthology does not come to fruition due to any reason.

Pro Se Open Month will begin on May 1 and announcements will be made at www.facebook.com/ProSeProductions and at Pro Se’s website on its news page at www.prose-press.com.

PRO SE PRODUCTIONS DEBUTS FIRST VOLUME IN PULPSTUDIES IMPRINT- JUST THE FACTS: TRUE TALES OF COPS AND CRIMINALS BY JIM DOHERTY

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, a cutting edge Publisher of Genre Fiction known for innovation in its field, announced the debut of a new imprint late last year focused on nonfiction works.  PULPSTUDIES is a line that will feature books focused either on academic and/or historical studies of New Pulp Fiction and on subjects that would be of interest to New Pulp and Genre Fiction fans and creators.  Today, Pro  Se Productions proudly debuted the first PULPSTUDIES volume.  JUST THE FACTS: TRUE TALES OF COPS AND CRIMINALS by career officer and author Jim Doherty.

“This book,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “is amazing.  Jim Doherty brings stories of the good and bad guys of crime to life with a style that lets you know not only is he a law enforcement professional, but he’s also a fan of the history itself.  Real life figures, both those everyone probably recognizes and so many that most of us have never heard of, don’t just leap off the page.  They shoot, drive, roll, tumble, and fight their way from Jim’s wonderfully handled prose into a sort of new reality all their own for the reader.”

Fiction is filled with fantastic crimefighters, people who put on the badge and solve every mystery and put every criminal where they belong.  But those same sort of people have always existed beyond the page.  Real life lawmen who went above and beyond in the pursuit of justice and the law.  Jim Doherty, “Just The Facts” Columnist for Mystery Readers Journal and a third generation policeman, tells the stories of law enforcement legends and the people who stood on the other side in JUST THE FACTS: TRUE TALES OF COPS AND CRIMINALS.

Bill Tilghman, legendary Oklahoma lawman and town-tamer from the Territorial era to the Roaring Twenties. Richard Crafts, an airline pilot who killed his stewardess wife and fed her frozen body into a rented woodchipper. Hawaiian Policeman Chang Apana, the real Chinese-American detective who inspired Earl Derr Biggers to create Charlie Chan. Their stories and many more are brought to life in this new edition of JUST THE FACTS: TRUE TALES OF COPS AND CRIMINALS, featuring articles new to the collection as well as three exclusive to this edition.

“Jim Doherty combines the cool eye of a law enforcement professional (which he is) with the fiery enthusiasm of a fan (which he also is) in a superb collection of essays detailing the true-crime back-stories of some of mystery fiction’s greatest yarns. These crisp, no-nonsense accounts are hypnotically readable, and the Eliot Ness chapter alone is worth the price of admission.”

—Max Allan Collins, author of Road To Perdition

“This is a well researched, addictive collection of true case studies, some sensational, others little known, all intensely interesting. And one, ‘The Mad Doctor and The Untouchable,’ will no doubt become a terrific movie.” —Joseph Wambaugh

Currently a sergeant in the police force of a national railroad, third-generation cop Jim Doherty has served American law enforcement at the local, state, and federal levels, policing a wide variety of jurisdictions, from university campuses to military bases, from inner city streets to suburban parks, and has, at one time or another, worked in a dozen different states for seven different police agencies.  He has walked foot beats, made undercover drug buys, been assigned to a special task force tracking down a serial sex criminal, and guarded presidents and royalty.  Due to his wide background in police work (being a lifelong fan of the comic strip) , Jim is the current police technical advisor for DICK TRACY.

JUST THE FACTS: TRUE TALES OF COPS AND CRIMINALS features a wonderfully rendered cover by artist Jeff Hayes, also a career policeman, and print formatting and cover design by Percival Constantine.  This first PULPSTUDIES volume is available on Amazon and at Pro Se’s own store at http://tinyurl.com/kbe2srsfor $18.00.  It will be available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Smashwords in digital format soon.

The next volume in the PULPSTUDIES line will be WHERE STORIES DWELL, a collection of essays by Author I. A. Watson. The PULPSTUDIES logo was created by Sean E. Ali.

What happened to her after she killed Lizzie Borden's father and stepmother in 1892, and before she returned to Fall River, Massachusetts in 1927? You will thrill to her surreal encounters with Ponce De Leon, Cotton Mather, Professor James Moriarty, Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin, Doctor Herbert West, Mary Pickford, H. P. Lovecraft, and many others-- including her father, the diabolical genius known as Jack the Ripper. Follow her as she struggles to understand just who and what she really is, and carves out her own unique place in the world.”

LOGAN L. MASTERSON BRINGS UNIQUE FANTASY SERIES TO PRO SE SINGLE SHOT SIGNATURES!

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions announces the inclusion of one of the brightest new voices in Genre Fiction today in its recently announced PRO SE SINGLE SHOT SIGNATURE digital single line.  Logan L. Masterson, author of the upcoming debut novel RAVENCROFT SPRINGS, brings his unique talents to the SIGNATURE line with his original series CANTICLE OF ORDRASS: THE WHEEL OF THE YEAR.

“I’m so excited,” says Masterson, “about the Canticle of Ordrass: Wheel of the Year serials! It’s a great opportunity to be part of Pro Se Press’s innovative relaunch of short fiction formats that they’re calling the Single Shots Signature Series. There are some great authors in the mix, and the time is just right for a new kind of serial fiction!”

“The Wheel of the Year,” continues Masterson, “will be set in Ordrass, the World of Nine True Things, where magic and science are still one and mighty heroes rise to meet epic challenges. The Wheel of the Year will be an eight part series of stories timed to coincide with the European pagan festivals. The first story will be released in October, timed to be read at or around the pagan festival of Samhain. And the story ties into those themes, covering life and death both literally and figuratively.”

“I’ve been working on this world my whole life. It grew from my love of fantasy fiction and gaming, and incorporates all my favorite tropes. The Wheel of the Year series will be especially rewarding, since it will be a kind of pulp parable, all about change and acceptance. There’s so much tension in the worlds of religion and politics today, especially here in America, and I hope the stories will speak to that while maintaining the sense of wonder and adventure. It really is thrilling to have the chance to write a serial of this kind, something that’s so timely and resonant. I hope that my readers will be as excited about it as I am! “

Born in southern Missouri, and traveling the American southwest throughout his early life, Logan L. Masterson became rooted in ideas rather than places. To him, home is literally where the heart is. Having developed an early fascination for words, the writing process is not second nature, but first.  If the product of his fancies should become meaningful to an eight-year-old or an octogenarian, his work is validated and  his purpose fulfilled.
Enlightenment is worth striving for, but smiles and tears are no mean feat.

Masterson considers himself a poet, writer, actor, storyteller, artist, photographer, & new world man.  His first professionally published fiction debuted in CAPES AND CLOCKWORK, a steampunk super hero anthology from Dark Oak Press, in January 2014.  Masterson signed on with Pro Se Productions in 2013 for Pro Se to publish his first novel, RAVENCROFT SPRINGS, scheduled for release in May 2014.

SMOKING GUN SISTERHOOD NOW AVAILABLE AS EBOOK

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions announces today that the recently released Thad Brown collection, THE SMOKING GUN SISTERHOOD is now available in digital format.

Ten women. Each one between a rock that might be her tombstone and a hard place that it may take a gun to blast her way out of. Author Thad Brown's collection of hard bitten, bullet paced fiction centered on women embroiled in violence and danger takes Pulp to a whole new level. Being a Woman often means fighting against all odds. And the women in Brown's tales are charter members of 'The Smoking Gun Sisterhood. A fantastic double barrelled collection from Author Thad Brown and Pro Se Productions.

“Some of the ten titles might help to give you a fairly good idea of what to expect: Biker Angel; Cops and Robbers; Sisters, Dark and Light.... Brown has a nicely cinematic tone to his writing –it’s very easy to visualize proceedings in my mind’s eye as they unfolded, and the three entries mentioned above would all have potential as movies. … certainly comes recommended to action heroine fans. There’s plenty of variety in scenarios, and even the least of the tales is still fun to read. I think the overall attitude of the stories is what makes them work.” --www.girlswithguns.org

THE SMOKING GUN SISTERHOOD features a great cover by Jeff Hayes, logo design by Percival Constantine, and ebook formatting by Russ Anderson.  It is available as an ebook for $2.99 at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and www.smaswords.com.

Pro Se

A cutting edge Publisher of Genre Fiction, Pro Se Productions announces the release of its latest novel, a story set in post World War I Harlem with all the action, intrigue, and adventure a Pulp novel could have- BLACK PEARL by Alvin Grimes.

"BLACK PEARL,"  says Editor in Chief of and Partner in Pro Se Productions, Tommy Hancock, "is a classic Pulp tale in so many ways, yet rings true with a modern sensibility as well.  The story, along with those living it from cover to cover, breathes from every page with a life all its own.  There's definitely a tip of the fedora stylistically as Alvin puts together one of the best Pulp tales I've read in many years. It has all the shades and angles Pulp fans come to expect and it also has its own voice, one that sets it squarely in the New Pulp realm and will fascinate fans for years to come as the first in a series."

In his life, Jackson Blaze has been many things: hustler, prizefighter, leg breaker, and decorated war hero. Upon returning home from World War I to his adopted home of Harlem, New York, he finds himself in the middle of a war between gangster boss Jimmy Rose and the Jewish Mafia for control of Harlem's lucrative underworld.

After recruiting a handful of his Army comrades to aid him, Jackson wages guerilla warfare against some of the toughest hoods in New York City. As if he doesn't have enough to worry about, he also finds himself in a passionate love affair with the beautiful and mysterious dancer known only as Tamara.

When the stakes are life and death, the slightest mistake could spell disaster. If he has any hope of survival, Jackson must decide to follow his head or his heart.

BLACK PEARL by Alvin Grimes is a thriller set in the heyday of Classic Pulp Tales, but delivered with a hard hitting modern voice.  Two Fisted, double barreled action at its best- BLACK PEARL by Alvin Grimes From Pro Se Productions.

SCI FI, FANTASY AND PULP AUTHOR RICHARD WHITE TAKES ON STRIKEFORCE: FALCON FOR PRO SE SINGLE SHOT SIGNATURES!

Pro Se

A cutting edge Publisher of Genre Fiction, Pro Se Productions reveals the inclusion of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and New Pulp Author Richard C. White as a charter author in Pro Se’s recently announced PRO SE SINGLE SHOT SIGNATURE line of series and imprints of digital singles.

In the early days of 1942, Imperial Japan was on the march in the Southwest Pacific. The Netherlands East Indies had fallen except for a few hold-outs on islands most of their defenders had never heard of before being assigned there. Bataan had fallen and Corregidor Island would only last a few weeks longer. The mighty American navy was still trying to recover from the twin disasters of Pearl Harbor and the Java Sea. It seemed that the Rising Sun would soon make it’s appearance in Australia.

But, not if the men of Strikeforce: Falcon had anything to say about it.

Strikeforce: Falcon is a series loosely based on the exploits of Z Special Group—a group of Allied commandos who drew on the experiences of the British Special Operations Executive and adapted them to the jungles and islands of the Pacific theater. “Strikeforce: Falcon is going to give me a chance to step out of my comfort zone,” says White. “I’ve been focused on fantasy and science fiction the past ten years, and it’s going to be good to get back to my roots. I think my experiences, both as a U.S. Army veteran as well as a historian, will help me bring these stories to life. But, whatever the source of the inspiration, it’s the action and intrigue surrounding the commando group that drive the story.”

Richard C. White’s first Pro Se work was in the Charles Boeckman Presents: Johnny Nickle collection released in July 2013. There are other projects currently in the works which will be released by Pro Se later this year, to include a fantasy noir duology called Chasing Danger: The Case Files of Theron Chase.

While Rich has only been publishing with Pro Se since 2013, he has been writing Science Fiction and Fantasy since 1998. He broke in doing media tie-in work, working on such varied licenses as The Incredible Hulk, Star Trek, Doctor Who, and Gauntlet Dark Legacy. His most recent work has been For a Few Gold Pieces More, a dark fantasy short story collection for Musa Publishing and he is the world builder behind Musa’s newest shared universe series The Darkside Codex, a steampunk series. Rich’s own contribution, beyond the story bible for Southwatch and the surrounding environs, is On Wings of Steel, a novel to be released in 2014. Additionally, Rich is a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, the International Association of Media Tie-In Writers, and a member of the Writer Beware committee for SFWA.

AWARD WINNING PULP AUTHOR BARRY REESE PENS SINGLE SHOT SIGNATURE SERIES

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, the publisher responsible for the recently revealed PRO SE SINGLE SHOT SIGNATURE imprint, announces that award winning New Pulp Author Barry Reese will bring his talent to bear on a series in this new line of digital singles.

Sovereign City has many champions but not all of them get the limelight. Reese’s THE DARK GENTLEMAN features one such hero.  The Dark Gentleman is a crusader for justice, taking out the small fry criminals so that others can focus on the bigger picture. But for those whose lives are saved by the masked hero, he is just as important as Lazarus Gray or Doc Daye… He is the Dark Gentleman and he’s cleaning up Sovereign City, one petty thug at a time.

“The Dark Gentleman series,” says Reese, “represents a chance for me to do something a bit different within the confines of my pulp adventure universe. He operates on a smaller scale than most of my heroes and the focus will be on mundane (but still exciting!) adventures - no supernatural forces or globe trotting. This is straight-up, in your face pulp.

Barry Reese has been with Pro Se since the early days of the company's foray into New Pulp and in 2011 brought his seminal New Pulp creation THE ROOK to roost as a part of Pro Se.  Since then, Barry has opened his mind and let his vivid imagination pour out into various novels, including more adventures of THE ROOK as well as volumes featuring LAZARUS GRAY and GRAVEDIGGER.

Barry has spent the last decade writing for publishers as diverse as Marvel Comics, West End Games, Pro Se Press and Moonstone Books. Known primarily for pulp adventure works, Barry has also delved into slasher horror (Rabbit Heart) and crime noir (The Damned Thing). His favorite classic pulp heroes are The Avenger, The Shadow, Conan and Seekay.

Reese is also a winner of multiple awards for his Pulp work, including Best Novel, Best Short Story, Best Author, and most recently Best New New Pulp Character for his creation of Gravedigger in the 2014 New Pulp Awards.

THE DARK GENTLEMAN will feature cover art by Artist Jeffrey Hayes. Hayes is also the designer of the Pro Se Single Shots Signatures logo.
