“I remember,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “waiting on the mystery movie of the week, first on NBC, then on ABC, and CBS had its own version at some point too. Such great shows, including COLUMBO, KOJAK, MCCLOUD, and more. Basically, these ‘movie of the week’ programs had four tv movies set up in a rotation throughout the month and a new adventure of whatever lead character would appear one week, then another character the next, and so on, and the films would play in rotation the same day each week. This concept is something that can easily be adapted to digital releases as well, and Pro Se even took a stab at it with our Pro Se Single Shot Signature Series, some of which are still in play.
“But,” Hancock continues, “The Single Shot line had some inherent issues that it just couldn’t overcome, so Pro Se shelved it a few months ago. And THE PRO SE THRILLER OF THE WEEK isn’t necessarily bringing our old line back. Instead we are adapting the rotating movie of the week concept and bringing four thrillers in rotation per month to readers. We plan to introduce four new series written by writers who will propose concepts based on the bible of each series and have a season of four-six ‘episodes’ of each series play out in rotation over that many months. We will pick one day a week for release and each week on that day release a new 10-20 thousand word stand alone story in one of the four series for only $1.49 each!”
Just like the old days of mystery movies on TV, THE PRO SE THRILLER OF THE WEEK will take readers around the world and into small town corruption, into the horrors of the occult and the heart of a sinner. And, on the months with a fifth week in them, Pro Se will release a ‘pilot’ episode of a new series and allow readers to weigh in on whether or not that series should get a season of its own.
Submissions are now open for writers to make proposals to write an episode of THE PRO SE THRILLER OF THE WEEK. All proposals must be at least three paragraphs long outlining the story proposal and characters to be used, as well as the ending of the story. All proposals should be in Times New Roman, 12 type, single spaced, doubled between paragraphs and emailed to editorinchief@prose-press.com.
The following four series make up the first rotation of THE PRO SE THRILLER OF THE WEEK-
HARRIDAN-A successful internet news reporter, the adventurous and somewhat antisocial Harridan, finds herself returning home to Memphis, Tennessee. Left there by parents she never knew with the enigmatic Aunt Belle LaForge, Harridan grew up with a particular gift, curse, or problem, depending on her viewpoint. Harridan, from the day she started puberty, attracted odd types of people. And happenings. And events. All of the occult nature, and all things most others do not believe. Now, as an adult, Harridan is a purveyor of news that most outlets won’t cover, and still she can’t escape the strangeness that seems to follow her around…or the monsters trying to kill her.
AKA THE SINNER-Nathaniel (Never Nathan, that gets you a polite warning. Never Nate, that gets your life threatened. Never ever Nat, that gets you injured in some noticeable fashion) Brigand, his actual true surname, cursed from birth it would seem, is a man out to save the world after doing all he could to destroy it. There isn’t a crime that Brigand hasn’t committed, save anything sexual or any crimes directly against children. This Brigand wears as a badge of honor, even though he is no longer a career criminal. Now he only commits crimes for the betterment of others when necessary. And he often finds it necessary.
When the law can’t help You… When it feels like even God has forsaken You…look for The Sinner.
THE OUT-OF-TIMERS-Three people, each experts in their respective fields, and near masters in many things. For different reasons, they are considered to be not long for this world, living on borrowed time. They each have also been known to be risk takers, daredevils of a sort, so even without their own individual issues, they could, at any minute, put themselves in situations that could take them out. They are brought together as a group by a man known only as Mister Davies to form the most unique of teams. Working both on individual missions and as a group, The Out-Of-Timers are sent on jobs to basically confront evil, help those who need it, and save the world. While they still can.
MURDER, AR-The town of Murdock, Arkansas, population right at about 15,000 sits on the banks of the White River. Originally a prison farm ran by ‘Captain’ Justus T. Murdock, the town grew up the day that Captain Murdock freed its three hundred prisoners in exchange for them settling there. It was also the day Captain Murdock was murdered, the first of untold crimes in the town that today is known as Murder, Arkansas.
Taggart Powell, a native son, returns to Murdock to be its new police chief, and probably its first honest one. Facing off against the Sheriff of Justus County and the past, his own and the entire town’s, Taggart takes on mystery and crime head on, desperate to take the Murder out of Murdock.
