PRO SE PRODUCTIONS LICENSE INDEPENDENT FILM CHARACTER AND MOVIE UNIVERSE FOR PRINT
Pro Se
Pro Se Productions, an independent Publisher known for cutting edge Genre Fiction and New Pulp, welcomes a new licensed property into its catalog. A cinematic hero, a Pop Culture Convention fan favorite (particularly in the South) fights his way from an independent film trilogy to novels, anthologies, and collections from Pro Se beginning in 2014.
In 2010, Mason Studios, an up and coming film company based in Memphis, debuted ‘No More Sorrow’, an action adventure film written and directed by studio founder Josh Mason. The sequel, No More Sorrow 2: Rebirth was released in 2011. The main story of these two films revolved around a secret organization of assassins known as The Society whose mission was to rid the world of evil. Essentially a group of peacekeepers. It is the creed of The Society to "create a world in which there is no more Sorrow" (hence the name of the film series). The most lethal assassin in The Society is a figure known by many names throughout his lifetime and made his debut in 2012 in No More Sorrow 3: Whispers in the Dark. Though his true identity is unknown, those who fear him in the post apocalyptic hell the world becomes in the third film know him as The Honeybadger.
“The Honeybadger,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of and Partner in Pro Se Productions, “was a character created specifically for the man who played him in the third No More Sorrow film. Allan Gilbreath, renowned author and the man behind Dark Oak Press (formerly Kerlak Publishing), is a true renaissance type guy and brings that to bear in everything he does. The Honeybadger is a fun character to cheer for and to watch win against spies, soldiers, zombies, pirates, and pretty much every enemy thrown his way. Even though he only appears in the third film, he has such a presence and is so much of a mystery that he screams to have more stories, for the curtain to be pulled back on his past. Not only that, but to get to play in the whole No More Sorrows universe, a world that in the first two films mirrors our own, but by the third has become a post apocalyptic crazy quilt, is just simply going to be fun.”
The films, particularly No More Sorrow 3: Whispers in the Dark, have become fan favorites at various Pop Culture Conventions. This is due in part to the over the top action and audacity of the films, but also to the fact that Gilbreath is a regular in many capacities at dozens of conventions around the country.
THEY CALL HIM THE HONEYBADGER will be the first anthology of the character’s adventures from Pro Se in 2014. Stories will be ten thousand words in length and can feature the Honeybadger either in his ‘present’, which would be the post apocalyptic setting of the third film or in his ‘past’, as far back as his early days as an assassin. Other characters from the film series will also be available to be featured in the stories as the authors see fit. A bible will be provided to all authors interested in proposing stories. All authors whose proposals are accepted will receive the three films from Mason Studios for story research purposes. A trailer for the third film featuring the Honeybadger can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdX_Aks8Mjc.
“When I created the Honeybadger character for my No More Sorrow 3 film,” Josh Mason states, “I just knew Allan Gilbreath was going to make a cameo and I had to give him the most awesome character I could possibly conceive. However, not a lot of thought went into the character’s backstory or who he really was. That is why I’m super excited for the character to come to books and to see what the team of authors at Pro Se comes up with. The No More Sorrows universe is a rich one and I can’t wait to see other creative minds expand upon it.”
If interested in proposing a story for THEY CALL HIM THE HONEY BADGER, submit a request for the concept bible to Morgan Minor, Pro Se’s Director of Corporate Operations at MorganMinorProSe@yahoo.com by December 10th, 2013. Bibles will be sent out to those who request them and proposals (1-3 paragraphs in length) will be due by January 1st, 2014. Deadline for submission of the story will be March 15th, 2014 with publication tentatively scheduled for May 2014.
