PRO SE SINGLE SHOT SIGNATURE DIGITAL LINE DEBUTS WITH ‘JAKE ISTENHEGYI, THE ACCIDENTAL DETECTIVE’

Pro Se

An innovative independent Publisher of Genre Fiction and New Pulp, Pro Se Productions proudly announces the debut of the first series in its highly anticipated Pro Se Single Shot Signature line of digital singles.  Mystery, magic, and madness come together explosively in author Nikki Nelson Hicks’ ‘A CHICK, A DICK, AND A WITCH WALK INTO A BARN, the first tale in Hicks’ JAKE ISTENHEGYI, THE ACCIDENTAL DETECTIVE series.

“This story,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “is the ideal tale to kick off our Single Shot Signatures.  Not only does Nikki bring all the right tropes to bear for this sort of story to work, but she does exactly what Pro Se seeks to do.  Jake Istenhegyi is a character that is equal parts classic Pulp type hero and modern sensibilities all rolled into one Hungarian package.  The action never stops, but there’s also a resonance within this tale informed by today.  All that not only makes this story sing like a well used Tommy gun, but it makes Jake Istenhegyi a guy to watch.”

What did my partner, Bear, tell me over a million times? “Never let yourself get trapped, kid, always, always, ALWAYS have a way out!”

And, yet, here I am, sitting on my ass, in a dirty shed, pressed up against a wooden crate with my feet holding shut the only thing between me and the clucking, scratching, screaming horde from hell outside that wants to kill me.

So, this is me, Janos ‘Jake’ Istenhegyi, and this is how it all ends. I escaped the clutches of the Nationalist Socialist Party in my homeland of Budapest to die in a dirt shack of a crazy voodoo queen, covered in shit and the blood of my best friend, torn and beaten by chickens.

It’s a hell of a way to spend a birthday.”

Thus begins the new Single Shot Signature Series from Pro Se Press: Jake Istenhegyi, The Accidental Detective.

When Jake Istenhegyi inherited a used bookstore in New Orleans, he thought he had finally found a haven. Thousands of miles away from the political unrest in Budapest as well as his mother’s Gypsy clan, that had hounded him since he was a boy. Here, he could hide away and spend his days reading and drinking coffee in peace and quiet.

The American Dream come true, right?

Then he rented out a room to Barrington “Bear” Gunn, WWI vet and aspiring gumshoe who dreamed of living the life of his pulp heroes, Spade and Marlow. Bear bartered his services to people in very low places and, in the end, pulled Jake down with him, enrolling him in a business that never goes out of business: fighting evil.

Jake never wanted adventure or mystery.  He’s always been allergic to things that go AAAARGH in the night. They make him break out in blood. And not always his blood.

They do in Author Nikki Nelson-Hicks’ A CHICK, A DICK, AND A WITCH WALK INTO A BARN, the first in Hicks’ Pro Se Single Shot Signature Series featuring her original character, Jake Istenhegyi, The Accidental Detective.

A CHICK, A DICK, AND A WITCH WALK INTO A BARN by Nikki Nelson-Hicks, with cover and logo design by Jeff Hayes and Ebook design and formatting by Russ Anderson, is available for 99 cents at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, www.smashwords.com, and other ebook outlets.
