AUTHOR SIGNS WITH PRO SE FOR SCIENCE FICTION STORY COLLECTION- A. STUART WILLIAMS’ RINGS AROUND THE SUN’ DUE IN 2015
Pro Se
A leading publisher in Genre Fiction, Pro Se Productions announces the signing of up and coming Author A. Stuart Williams. Pro Se will publish Rings Around the Sun, a story collection by Williams featuring Bob Howard, ex commander of the Solar Federation, Williams’ own character, recently published in a Pro Se anthology.
“One thing,” says Tommy Hancock, Pro Se Productions Editor in Chief and Partner in the company, “that we look for is an author who can tell a good story. Stuart does that with such an enthusiasm and passion that every word pops off the page. Combine that with the fact that he writes hard boiled science fiction, a mash up of sorts that very few can pull off well, as if it were the easiest thing in the world and it’s a foregone conclusion that Pro Se would love to have him be a part of what we do. And with Rings Around the Sun, he brings us the further adventures of Bob Howard, a character who we hope will be fighting his way through the spaceways for years to come here at Pro Se.”
A. Stuart Williams is an English writer, photographer, historian and journalist living in the region of England, which inspired J. R. R. Tolkien's dark land of Mordor - the 'Black Country'. Fascinated by science fiction, sword and sorcery, weird pulp, alternate history and latterly steampunk since the 1960s, he grew up reading British reprints of classic US pulps and Golden Age science fiction.
Previously published in factual magazines (computing, astronomical, photographic, historical), newspapers and the author of several local history books, Stuart initially trained as a commercial photographer before working in newspaper publishing, finally becoming a professional local historian and journalist. He is now working on a second career as a Science Fiction, New Pulp, and Steampunk author. Currently working on a number of projects, Minor Planet Mambo is his first science fiction story for Pro Se. Numbering Arthur C. Clarke, E. E. 'Doc' Smith, Robert E. Howard, Robert A. Heinlein, H. P. Lovecraft, H.G. Wells and Jules Verne amongst his influences, Stuart believes that “What if?” is the most amazing question of all.
“I was really pleased,” says Williams, “to find my first outing in New Pulp, Minor Planet Mambo, being published in such good company in Pro Se Productions recent action-packed anthology Rat-A-Tat: Short Blasts of Pulp. It’s a great book and to be seen it is a ‘wow moment’ for me.
“Now I am,” continues the author, “quite literally, ‘over the Moon’ to be asked to sign a contract with Pro Se Productions after sending them a proposal for a book based on ‘Minor Planet Mambo’. Rings Around the Sun will be a collection of old-school ‘hard-boiled space opera’ – kind of ‘Hammett meets Heinlein’ – stories recounting the earlier career and adventures of the short story’s hero, Commander Bob Howard of the Solar Federation Space Patrol. It’ll be a blast!”
Rings Around the Sun is currently scheduled to be published in June 2015 by Pro Se Productions.
