ALL FIRST STORIES IN PRO SE SINGLE SHOT SIGNATURE SERIES AVAILABLE FREE FOR THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER!

Pro Se

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

In May 2014, Pro Se Productions, a leading Publisher of Genre Fiction and New Pulp, launched an ambitious endeavor to provide readers with digital short fiction by today’s best Authors on schedules ranging from bi weekly to every six months.  The Pro Se Single Shot Signature line involved 40 plus writers telling tales that ran the genre gamut from one end to the other and intended to set a new standard in Pulp Fiction.  Although several series have been produced, the line has had issues becoming established, as stated by the company.  To that end, Pro Se Productions has established September as Pro Se Single Shot Signature Month, not only to essentially re establish the original intent of the line, but also to debut new series and make other announcements, insuring that the digital imprint will fulfill its original intent.

“Real life,” says Tommy Hancock, Pro Se’s Editor in Chief, “sometimes affects everything, even business.  And there are choices to be made when that happens for a company like Pro Se.  Either you push on as if nothing has happened and hope it all works out and no one notices.  Or you fall back, regroup, and come out even stronger than before, taking the scars with the stars.  That’s what we are doing with the Pro Se Single Shot Signature line.  Our large scale plan for the fantastic work of this unbelievable collection of writers did not fully gel in the last year, due in large part to issues related to the lives of many involved, myself primarily.  However, with the support of staff and the sheer tenacity of the writers involved in this project, we are now in the place to not only carry on with the great Signature series and writers’ imprints that have already launched, but September will see the debut of several new series that make this entire project something that is unparalleled in New Pulp today.  And what better way to kick that off than with offering readers the chance to get on board existing series for free?”

For the month of September, Pro Se Productions is offering the first story/episode/chapter of each of its existing Pro Se Single Shots Signature Series stories for free!  Enjoy mystery, super heroics, horror, fantasy, and more for free in most formats and enter worlds created by the best writers of Fiction today!  Follow the links below to get the opening salvos of these great series for free-

THE TRUTH IS HERE! PAUL BISHOP’S LIE CATCHERS DEBUTS FROM PRO SE PRODUCTIONS

Pro Se

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Pro Se Productions, a leading independent Publisher of Genre Fiction, announces the debut of noted author and LAPD Detective Paul Bishop’s latest novel.  The first in a series, Bishop delves into the black, white, and gray in between of the line between reality and falsehood, exploring police interrogation from thirty five years of experience, in Lie Catchers, now available in print and digital formats.

“Paul Bishop,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “has delivered a tale in Lie Catchers that truly left me breathless and desperate for more the first time I read it.  The first time of four in as many days, by the way.  Not only does the real life Paul has lived as a police officer and interrogator show brilliantly, but he makes the characters and even the tension and thriller aspect of this book really live, puts real flesh and blood on the bones of his fiction.   Lovers of mysteries, crime tales, noir, police procedurals, and just straight up finely executed plots and characters would do themselves a disservice to miss out on this book.”

"Lie Catchers crackles with authenticity. Bishop's thirty-five years as an LAPD Top Cop fuels a turbo-charged novel.” – Robert Crais, bestselling author of the Elvis Cole novels.

With her special abilities, top LAPD Robbery-Homicide detective Calamity Jane Randall thought she knew all about interrogation until she met detective Ray Pagan. Wielding a suspect’s vocal intonations, emotions, and physical gestures like a scalpel, Pagan’s empathetic lie catching abilities are legendary.

Both detectives are scarred by past tragedies, but when paired together, they threaten to tear the city apart searching for a duo of missing children – a search where the right answer to the wrong question can mean sudden death.

Ripped from the experiences of thirty-five year veteran LAPD detective and nationally recognized interrogator, Paul Bishop, Lie Catchers takes the reader inside the dark and dangerous mind games of the men and women for whom truth is an obsession.

“Paul Bishop is the real deal – real cop, real writer. You never go wrong with a Bishop novel.” – Max Allan Collins, author of Road to Perdition and the bestselling Nate Heller novels

Featuring an explosive cover and logo design by Jeffrey Hayes and print formatting by David Foster, Lie Catchers is available now at Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/Lie-Catchers-Paul-Bishop/dp/151709643X/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1440952048&sr=1-3&keywords=lie+catchers and Pro Se’s own store at www.prose-press.com for 15.00.

Pro Se

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

In January 2015 Pro Se Productions licensed the character of Big Daddy Cool Johnny Dellarocca, the time traveling gangster/magician alter ego of performer and convention personality John Pyka.  The publisher of innovative genre fiction today announces the first volume in The World of Big Daddy Cool imprint, written by the character’s creator.  Tales From The Flip-Side: The Adventures of Big Daddy Cool and the Bombshell Kittens by John Pyka is now available in print and digital format.

“Pro Se,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “is known for pushing boundaries and doing things that might make people raise an eyebrow.  The licensing of Big Daddy Cool, as well as other characters by real life performers, is maybe one of those moves, but it’s something more.  It’s a way to open up readers and fans to great stories being told that, were it not for Pro Se, may never see the page of a book.  John Pyka has lived and breathed The World of Big Daddy Cool for years, peopling it with over the top heroes, evil to the heart villains, and mashing genres together like nobody’s business.  It makes perfect sense for Pro Se Productions to turn that into an imprint.  And there is absolutely no better way to kick this off then with Tales from the Flip-Side, written by the zoot suited Pyka himself. This book is a ride, hepcats and kittens, a wild, far out ride.”

He began life as a Gangster… He found a new path as an Entertainer… He Never Knew How Far He’d Go to end Up a Hero.

Now, tethered to this new time, Dellarocca can travel into his past to influence events to shape the present, his future. Tales From The Flip-Side: The Adventures of Big Daddy Cool and the Bombshell Kittens reveals the tale of one of the earliest adventures of Big Daddy Cool & The Bombshell Kittens leading up to that day in 1946.

In the final days of WWII, Chicago Holo-Visor reporter Penny Lane has been kidnapped and is being held for ransom by Chicago's most infamous villain, Dr. Diablo. WAR IS A HAUNTED HELL IN AUTHOR M. R. WILLIAMSON’S ‘THE ANGEL OF HOLLOWAY’-NEW FROM PRO SE PRODUCTIONS

Pro Se

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A cutting edge Publisher of Genre Fiction, Pro Se Productions announces the release of the first in a series of digest novels set in the Vietnam War. Author M. R. Williamson blends the supernatural, romance, and horror into the stirring and chilling The Angel of Holloway, now available in print and digital formats.

“Genre Fiction,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “offers the opportunity for so many interesting concepts to be explored.  And Pro Se Productions, a publisher of New Pulp, paints the definition of Pulp with a fairly broad brush, allowing for stories that are action tales with nuances of other genres, such as horror and romance, to be told.   M. R. Williamson’s The Angel of Holloway explores not only the Vietnam era, but an aspect of the war itself and the men in it.  These characters live and breathe on the page and that makes the strange road they travel even more engaging and bizarre as the supernatural elements make themselves known.  The Angel of Holloway is most definitely a story that will take readers on a visceral and emotional journey.”

A normal life was all that soldier Johnny Tremain ever wanted.  But laying wounded in the elephant grass deep in the jungles of eastern Vietnam, he saw a vision of a girl from his past, one whom he once loved.

“Get up, Johnny,” she urged. “You’re not hurt,” she said.

Quickly realizing this was no vision, Johnny struggled to his feet and followed her, hopefully toward Camp Holloway.  Losing his strength, he passed out only to be brought back by the same, haunting voice.

Those at Camp Holloway accredited Johnny’s survival to something angelic.  But visions sometimes follow soldiers home, all the way back to the States.  And the only way to escape back to normality is to confront them. . . . But how?

Pro Se Productions proudly presents The Angel of Holloway by M. R. Williamson, the first in a series of digest novels set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War, tales of love, loss, of war and the supernatural.

Featuring an atmospheric photo cover by Kimberly Richardson and logo design and print formatting by Percival Constantine, The Angel of Holloway is available now at Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/Angel-Holloway-M-R-Williamson/dp/1516901134/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1439917218&sr=8-1&keywords=the+angel+of+holloway+williamson and Pro Se’s own store at www.prose-press.com for 10.00.

Williamson’s first book with Pro Se is also available as an Ebook for only $2.99, designed and formatted by Forrest Bryant for the Kindle at http://www.amazon.com/Angel-Holloway-M-R-Williamson-ebook/dp/B014252CI6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1439917275&sr=8-1&keywords=the+angel+of+holloway+williamson+kindle and for most digital formats via Smashwords at http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/569992.

PRO SE PRODUCTIONS ANNOUNCES NEW DIRECTOR OF CORPORATE OPERATIONS

Pro Se

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Pro Se Productions, a leading Publisher of Genre Fiction since 2010, releases today that Kristi King-Morgan is the company’s new Director of Corporate Operations (DCO).  This follows the resignation of Morgan McKay as Pro Se’s DCO, a position that she was the first to hold.

“The growth that Pro Se has experienced,” states Tommy Hancock, Partner in and EIC of Pro Se Productions, “really demands that there be someone in place to manage day to day issues that may arise, to oversee the work of writers and editors together, and to insure that all the pieces are not only in the right place, but that every cog and wheel of the publishing machine is turning as smoothly as possible.  Morgan established the DCO as a position that was exactly what was needed at its inception.  Kristi comes in at a time that not only do those initial needs have to be met in that spot, but there are even more facets to the job now.  Aspects that will require someone who can navigate not only individuals and relationships between creative sorts, but also marketing, business management, and the like.  From her first email to Pro Se about being a writer and editor to now, Kristi has shown not only the ability to work well with the company, but she has also demonstrated a willingness and skill to delve into and dive off into other areas where the DCO can make a difference within Pro Se.  And with our expansion and growth expected to continue at a fast rate, that is the sort of person we need as Director of Corporate Operations.”

Kristi King-Morgan, LMSW holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Southern Mississippi.  She has additional post-graduate training in child and adolescent trauma focusing specifically on trauma assessment and treatment of a wide variety of traumatic experiences including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse and neglect, as well as training in integrating mental health services into medical practices such as primary care and emergency room settings.  She is also working on additional post-graduate certifications at this time.

When Kristi is not busy being a social worker, she writes.  Kristi has been ghostwriting novels and articles as a freelancer for the past five years.  She also writes short stories under a pen name.  Kristi has also been working as an editor and book reviewer.  Her reviews are found on her blog and social media.  And of course she reads.  A lot. Science fiction and fantasy is her favorite.

Whenever being an adult doesn’t get in the way, she enjoys her hobbies of geocaching, growing carnivorous plants, playing Magic The Gathering and Pokemon Trading Card Game, and taking care of her exotic animal collection.

“When Tommy approached me with this job offer,” says King-Morgan, “we spoke about it quite a bit so that I could get a good understanding of the job duties and to see if we both felt I would be a good fit for the job. I guess the answer was yes because here I am.  I am honored to become a part of the Pro Se Productions team, and I look forward to exciting work ahead!  To be able to work in publishing and be a part of producing the kinds of stories I like to read is a dream come true.”

Kristi King-Morgan can be contacted via email at directorofcorporateoperations@prose-press.com.

PRO SE PRODUCTIONS LICENSES BILL BLACK'S AC COMICS CHARACTERS FOR PROSE ADVENTURES!

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, a leading Publisher of Genre Fiction, proudly announces a new licensing relationship with one of the best known names in independent comic books in the last 40 years.  Beginning in 2016, Pro Se will be publishing the adventures of Paragon, DarkShade, FemForce, and an entire plethora of four-color heroes and villains from the pages of AC Comics, thanks to a licensing arrangement with AC’s founder Bill Black and his company, Nightveil Media.

“This,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “is in many ways a fan dream come true for me.  I was, as a kid in the 1980s, the only comic collector my age, I thought, with any interest in the Golden Age characters.  When AC Comics began reviving some of those characters and a whole slew inspired by that era, it meant the world to me.  To be able to say that, thanks to the suggestion of writer Barry Reese and the wonderful working relationship we’ve already established with Bill Black, Pro Se will be bringing those wonderful characters with such vivid histories to life in prose is not just a fantastic business move.  It makes the ten year old kid reading comics in me jump up and down with joy.”

“Each of these characters,” continues Hancock, “still has pages and pages of stories to tell.  And Pro Se has access to writers who grew up with these heroes, who understand what it takes to bring a comic character to life in Pulp Fiction.  Translating comic characters to the Pulp page adds a certain edge, a visceral expression to them that I think lends itself well to Bill’s awesome cast of players.”

Evolving in 1982 out of Bill Black’s Paragon Publications, AC Comics® (Americomics in it’s first year of existence only, AC since 1984) was one of the initial quartet of independent color comics companies who pioneered the direct sales phenomenon in the early ’80’s. Within the framework of the four hundred-plus books AC has released, multitalented publishing maverick Bill Black has introduced a plethora of his own fascinating characters. From his new-wave super-hero universe of the companies’ early years (when costumed defenders like Captain Paragon, Commando D, The Scarlet Scorpion and Bolt gave readers an alternative to Marvel and DC fare) grew AC’s best known feature — The Femforce, Comicdom’s first and only successful all-female super-team book. In 1997, Femforce became the 229th comic book ever to pass the one hundred issue mark, and spawned an ever-increasing circle of spin-offs, support books and licensed merchandise.

A unique, eclectic and personal blend of tastes and influences have led publisher Bill Black to construct an engrossing matrix of fun and interesting comics and related publications. And now that creativity takes on new life in hands of today’s best Genre Fiction authors in new prose tales from Pro Se Productions!

"I'm truly excited,” says Bill Black, “about a new line of novels to be written about my comic book characters. This will open new vistas for Paragon, Nightveil, Femforce, and so many others. Comics and even the movies cannot come close to the in-depth characterization that novelization will bring. Prose adventures is something I've always wanted to do but never had the time. Pro Se, with talented writers like Barry Reese, will do it far better, so this promises to be an amazing joint venture. I can't wait to read the first book!"

Even though the slate of AC characters is wide and varied and will be explored over time in various Pro Se volumes, the initial collections and books will focus on Paragon, Nightveil, DarkShade, and FemForce. Other characters that may show up in the first year of this arrangement include the Latigo Kid, The Black Shroud, The Haunter, and Alizarin Crimson. Hancock states that the first call for submissions would likely go out in late August/Early September 2015 with the focus for publication to begin in 2016.

PRO SE PRODUCTIONS WELCOMES NEW SUBMISSIONS EDITOR

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, a leading Publisher of New Pulp and Genre Fiction, announces that a position long left open has been filled within the company.  Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, welcomes Rachel Lampi to the position of Submissions Editor for Pro Se Productions.

A position originally filled by noted author Barry Reese, the Submissions Editor for Pro Se Productions reviews manuscripts, both full length novels and short stories, received for consideration of publication by the company.  The Submissions Editor reads the submitted works, taking into account storytelling style, editing, writing ability, and several factors and then makes a recommendation to the Editor in Chief concerning the publication or refusal of the reviewed work.

Pro Se Submissions Editor Rachel Lampi

Pro Se Submissions Editor Rachel Lampi

“It is at the point,” says Hancock, “that we simply have to have someone who can not only read and review each submission, but who gives each work the care and attention that is necessary for a proper decision to be made.  Barry excelled at doing just that and we’ve waited on filling this spot until we found someone who exhibited the same skill and dedication as Barry had.  Rachel, initially coming to Pro Se as a summer intern this year, very quickly showed out of the gate that she not only enjoys reading, but she has a fantastic sense of what Pro Se is looking for and a wonderful eye for what is working and not working for a story. We are pleased to have her join the Pro Se staff and have already benefitted from her work this summer as Submissions Editor.”

Rachel Lampi is a college student at the University of Oklahoma. She is majoring in journalism, with an emphasis in professional writing, and is minoring in history and Irish studies. She’s loved both reading and writing for as long as she can remember, and can almost always be found doing one or the other. She was thrilled to be an intern, then move into the position of Submissions Editor with Pro Se Productions.

Pro Se Productions is not currently accepting unsolicited submissions and will tentatively again accept them on September 1, 2015.  Any solicited submissions or proposals for open anthologies should be emailed to submissions@prose-press.com.

For more information on this position or to interview anyone associated with Pro Se Productions, contact Morgan McKay, Pro Se’s Director of Corporate Operations, at directorofcorporateoperations@prose-press.com.

ASIAN PULP DEBUTS FROM PRO SE PRODUCTIONS!

Pro Se

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

In April 2013, Pro Se Productions released Black Pulp, a collection of stories written in classic pulp genres featuring lead characters of African descent.  Not only were readers captivated by the cast of characters featured in the book, they also saw the potential of future volumes, both of Black Pulp, and collections featuring other ethnicities in much the same way. Pro Se Productions proudly announces the release of Asian Pulp, featuring seventeen of today’s best authors, in both print and digital format.

Leonard Chang, novelist and writer and co-producer of the TV crime drama Justified, states in his introduction to Asian Pulp, “The world of pulp fiction was a world that I understood—it was a reaction to trauma, both as art and as catharsis. Personal trauma. Emotional trauma. Physical trauma. National trauma. This is why I responded to it, why I immersed myself in it. And why, whenever I was in a personal and artistic crisis, it saved me. Fiction is a reflection of and commentary on life, and I needed to find a reflection of and commentary on my life.

That there weren't any Asian Americans in the pulp I was reading wasn't a problem (or if there were Asians they tended to be dismissible stereotypes) -- no, not a problem at all, but actually an opportunity. I've always viewed writing as providing myself with more reading material. I write what I can't find out there. Why not have a Korean American act as a private eye, and infuse in his character all the traits I wanted to see but haven't? Why not write about Korean American gangsters, criminals, and detectives? And this is where we, as writers, all began moving toward: writing about people we want to see on the page, in lives and stories that speak to us.”

Following in the tradition of the best selling Black Pulp, from Today's Best Authors and up and coming writers comes Asian Pulp from Pro Se Productions! A collection of stories featuring characters of Asian origin or descent in stories that run the gamut of genre fiction!

Asian Pulp includes works from Don Lee, Naomi Hirahara, Kimberly Richardson, Percival Constantine, William F. Wu, Gary Phillips, Calvin McMillin, Mark Finn, Dale Furutani, Steph Cha, Henry Chang, Sean Taylor, Gigi Pandian, Louise Herring-Jones, Alan J. Porter, and David C. Smith. The anthology opens with an introduction from Leonard Chang.

“As an author of color who writes genre fiction,” says Gigi Pandian, “I love finding books where there are diverse characters in exciting stories. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved reading mystery and adventure stories, but characters in the types of stories I enjoy rarely reflect my own ethnic heritage or the diversity around me (my father is an immigrant from India, and I grew up in California). When I became a writer, I naturally created characters that were part of my own life experience.  I enjoyed Black Pulp, so it was an honor to be invited to contribute a story for this new anthology. Black Pulp was first and foremost a great collection of fiction--but I also loved how black writers and characters were brought into the spotlight. I hope Asian Pulp does the same thing for Asian writers and characters.”

Mysteries, westerns, stories of crime and noir, and more, all with Asian characters in the lead! Between these covers are 17 tales of action, adventure, and thrills featuring heroes and heroines of a different shade that will appeal to audiences everywhere. Asian Pulp. From Pro Se Productions.

Featuring a fantastic, evocative cover by Adam Shaw and logo design and print formatting by Sean Ali, Asian Pulp is available now at Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/Asian-Pulp-Leonard-Chang/dp/1514752182/ref=sr_1_1_twi_2_pap?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1436131934&sr=1-1&keywords=asian+pulp+chang and Pro Se’s own store at www.prose-press.com for 20.00.

This historic collection of authors and tales is also available as an Ebook, designed and formatted by Forrest Bryant and available for only $4.99 for the Kindle at http://www.amazon.com/Asian-Pulp-Don-Lee-ebook/dp/B010TLJ8FM/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&sr=1-1&qid=1436131934 and for most digital formats via Smashwords at https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/555805.

HEROINE PAYING HOMAGE TO GOLDEN AGE OF COMICS DEBUTS! RICHARD C. WHITE’S ‘DARK LEOPARD’ FROM PRO SE PRODUCTIONS

Pro Se

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A Publisher of Genre Fiction and New Pulp, Pro Se Productions proudly announces the debut of a new character, one whose roots are firmly planted in the early years of Comic books for inspiration.  Author Richard C. White recalls the daring heroines of the Golden Age of adventure with his own character, springing to life in New Pulp prose.  The Dark Leopard: Mouse Trap is now available in print and digital formats!

“There is so much,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “to be said for reaching into the past, back to stories that have come before and seeing what modern writers today could do with such concepts.  It’s not simply nostalgia. It’s about not only showing a respect for our literary past, but introducing the concepts that drove those stories, that inspired those characters, to modern readers and to find their significance today.  With The Dark Leopard: Mouse Trap, Richard harkens back to more than one four color masked maven and definitely adds in his own flair to what is, all in all, a double fisted tale of action and intrigue.”

Rachel Black is known to millions for many reasons—her hit movies, her glamorous lifestyle, and her reputed romances with Hollywood’s leading men. But Rachel also leads a secret life far away from the hot spotlights as the terror of criminals, saboteurs, and spies…because with the donning of a mask and risking of her life, Rachel is The Dark Leopard, Hollywood’s glamorous detective star.

Rachel, her father, Langston Black, and Mark Stone, a journalist and some-time partner with the lovely masked heroine, are in Monaco to make a movie about Nancy Wake, the World War II’s most celebrated British Special Operations agent. It’s the chance of a lifetime for Rachel and she’ll do anything to make the picture successful. However, when things start going wrong on the set, she begins to wonder whether it’s a rival movie company or perhaps something more sinister—something that may call for a certain feline super-hero. Then, a shadow from the past makes Rachel remember the reason she became the Dark Leopard in the first place.

Paying homage to classic Heroines of the Golden Age, Pro Se Productions proudly presents the debut adventures of The Dark Leopard, created by author Richard C. White.

Featuring a stunning cover by Rock Baker and print formatting and logo design by Forrest Bryant, The Dark Leopard: Mouse Trap is available now at Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Leopard-Mouse-Trap/dp/1514690764/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1435532079&sr=8-1&keywords=DARK+LEOPARd+mouse+trap and Pro Se’s own store at www.prose-press.com for 10.00.

The debut of White’s catlike heroine is also available as an EBook, designed and formatted by Bryant for only $2.99 for the Kindle at http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Leopard-Mouse-Trap-ebook/dp/B010FY8VWY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1435532406&sr=8-1&keywords=DARK+LEOPARd+mouse+trap+kindle and for most digital formats via Smashwords at http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/554071.

“The most wonderful thing,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “about Genre Fiction is just how broad a canvas it offers creators to work on.  Add in the application of the Pulp style of writing to a trippy concept that might seem more at home on a Saturday morning TV screen than in an anthology and the writers Jim Beard brought together, and you truly have something unique.  The Lemon Herberts is equal parts lunacy, fun, and action, which, in Pro Se’s book, makes for the best stories!”

OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS TO EXPANDED ANTHOLOGY FROM PRO SE PRODUCTIONS AND NEMO COMICS! NEMOVERSE OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS

Pro Se

In 2014, Pro Se Productions, a cutting edge Genre Fiction and New Pulp Publisher, revealed that it had licensed characters from Nemo Publishing, a company centered around the work of Jay Piscopo and aimed at bringing both classic fun and action back to comic books.  The first anthology to feature Nemo characters, originally opened for submissions in late 2014, is being expanded in terms of size and is open for proposals and submissions from authors.  Featuring the primary lineup from Nemo Publishing, the book will be entitled Nemoverse.

Nemoverse,” states Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions,” says it all.  This is an opportunity essentially to have the keys to the kingdom, one that really stands out from every other attempt at comics today.  Jay and the people at Nemo have taken these fantastic characters- Capt’n Eli, Commander X, the Sea Ghost, Jack Danger, Red Panther, Rogue Agent Zero, the Dimensioneers, and all the supporting cast that comes with them- and really breathed both a fresh new life and one that is reminiscent of the reasons comics first became so popular.  Four color escapism at its best is what Nemo does and now Pro Se gets a chance to do the same in its own inimitable two fisted, heroic style.”

Nemo Publishing is the home of Capt’n Eli, Commander X, and a variety of other characters.  Originally a mascot for Capt’n Eli Soda, the owners of the soda company saw potential for the character beyond its beginnings.  In partnership with artist/writer/creator Jay Piscopo and Nemo Publishing, Capt’n Eli became a four color hero and soon other characters, some reimagined public domain characters and others completely Piscopo’s original creations, joined the Nemo Comics Universe. Nemo also has a toyline featuring its characters.

Nemoverse is a collection that will focus on six characters from the Nemo Comics line, as well as the supporting cast involved with each of these.  The characters to be featured are Capt’n Eli, Commander X, The Sea Ghost, Jack Danger, Rogue Agent Zero, and The Red Panther

Stories for Nemoverse must be 6-8,000 words in length. The royalty will be determined by the final number of authors accepted into the anthology. The process for submission to this anthology is as follows: An author must email editorinchief@prose-press.com and express interest in submitting to the collection.  Brief synopses of the available characters will be sent to the author at that point.  Upon reviewing the list, a proposal of 100-500 words must be submitted to submissions@prose-press.com for the character(s) the author is interested in writing.  Although these characters have crossed over with one another various times in Nemo publications, Pro Se is interested in tales focused on the individual characters and want team ups to be necessary, not simply for the joy of doing them.

Reference material and character bible information are available to authors whose short proposals are approved as stated above. Authors not previously published by Pro Se Productions must submit a writing sample of at least two pages with their proposals. Authors whose proposals are accepted must submit the first four pages of their accepted stories as quickly as possible for review by Pro Se staff. Final deadline for completed stories is September 1, 2015.

Nemoverse is scheduled for release in December 2015/January 2016.

For questions related to the submissions call or to learn more about this project, contact Morgan McKay, Pro Se’s Director of Corporate Operations, at directorofcorporateoperations@prose-press.com.

ASIAN PULP TO BE RELEASED IN JUNE 2015 FROM PRO SE PRODUCTIONS

Pro Se

In April 2013, Pro Se Productions released Black Pulp, a collection of stories written in classic pulp genres featuring lead characters of African descent.  The response was overwhelmingly positive and immediate to this anthology featuring writers such as Walter Mosley, Joe Lansdale, Charles Saunders, Gary Phillips, Mel Odom and others.  This volume of stories quickly became and continues to be Pro Se’s best selling title.

Not only were readers captivated by the cast of characters featured in the book, they also saw the potential of future volumes, both of Black Pulp, and collections featuring other ethnicities in much the same way.  Asian Pulp, Pro Se Productions’ answer to a steady flow of requests from fans, debuts in June 2015.

“It seems,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “that we struck a chord with Black Pulp on several levels.  Asian Pulp definitely follows in the footsteps of that first collection in theme, but it’s also its own creature, a stand alone unique expression of Pulp of all types through a different and amazing filter. Every story is equally squarely sat in the Pulp style, in that wheelhouse, with the definite influence of Asian culture, history, and more being woven seamlessly into the action and adventure.  Multiple genres come to vibrant life within the pages of Asian Pulp, each one its own treasure trove of excitement.”

Featuring a cover by Black Pulp artist Adam Shaw with cover and logo design by Sean Ali, Asian Pulp includes works from Don Lee, Naomi Hirahara, Kimberly Richardson, Percival Constantine, William F. Wu, Gary Phillips, Calvin McMillin, Mark Finn, Dale Furutani, Steph Cha, Henry Chang, Sean Taylor, Gigi Pandian, Louise Herring-Jones, Alan J. Porter, and David C. Smith. The anthology opens with an introduction from Leonard Chang, novelist and writer and co-producer of the TV crime drama Justified.

Chang, in his introduction, states, “The world of pulp fiction was a world that I understood—it was a reaction to trauma, both as art and as catharsis. Personal trauma. Emotional trauma.
