THREE CLASSIC COMIC HEROES FIND A HOME IN PROSE! PUBLISHER LICENSES ORIGINAL SKYMAN, THE FACE, AND NATURE BOY!

A publisher known for resurrecting characters that deserve new stories, Pro Se Productions announces that it has licensed three comic characters, two from the 1940s and one from the 1950s, from Ronald Frantz.  Author of FANDOM: CONFIDENTIAL, Frantz is also the Founder and Publisher of ACE Comics and the rights holder to the original Skyman and The Face, both characters originally published by Columbia Comics, and Nature Boy, originally published by Charlton Comics in 1956-57.  Pro Se will publish prose anthologies, digest novels, and full length novels that feature the three characters individually, with at least one of the characters interacting in a shared universe setting.

“After working with the greats of the comics industry,” says Frantz, “such as Ditko, Boyette, Toth, Gill, Defuccio, and more, I’m happy to see The Original Skyman, The Face, and Nature Boy in the care of Tommy Hancock and Pro Se Press.”

All three characters will be presented in their original context, time periods, and characterizations.  This means that the adventures of each will take place either during the period in which they were originally published or immediately after their publishing dates, as if the stories simply continued.  

“It’s one of the best things,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “about being a part of Pro Se.  We have worked hard to build a reputation as a good keeper of legacies already established by characters of the past.  All three of these heroes have so many more stories that are possible and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tickled to death that we are going to get to tell them.  The Face is one of my personal favorites from the Golden Age of Comics and being able to add my name to his history in some way is a personal win.  The original Skyman has so many fans that we hope will follow him into prose, and then to have a character as cool as Nature Boy with so much left to explore, it’s all just exciting.  Both as a fan and as a Publisher, I am more than honored to be given the chance by Ron to carry these characters into a new medium and into the future.”

The Face will be introduced in an anthology that is a part of Pro Se’s PULP OBSCURA imprint.  Although he will appear in solo stories at least in the first collection, The Face will be inserted into a world where public domain characters and licensed characters from various mediums co exist, so guest stars from Pulp magazines, old time radio, and more may cross paths with Tony Trent and his horrific, heroic alter ego.

Nature Boy and the original Skyman will appear within the next year in their own individual books and one or both may also be included as a part of PULP OBSCURA.

SUBMISSIONS CALL OPEN FOR FOUR MONTHLYPRO SE SINGLE SHOT SIGNATURE SERIES!

In 2014, Pro Se Productions announced and launched The Pro Se Single Shot Signature Series, an innovative line of digital only fiction series, most of them episodic in nature and centering around a series regular or cast.  Though the first incarnation of the line came to an end in 2016, Pro Se Productions announces the return of The Pro Se Single Shot Signature series by opening a submissions call for four new monthly series for release in 2018-2019.

Proposals for submissions are now being accepted for four new series as a part of the Pro Se Single Shot Signature line.  Any genre is acceptable and word length must be 3 to 10 thousand words per month for a twelve month series.  The series may either be episodic, ‘chapters’ in one continual story OR 12 individual stories featuring the same character or cast, like stand alone episodes.  A mix of both can also be used, some stand alone episodes, some multi ‘chapter’ arcs.

Proposals for a series MUST outline 12 episodes/chapters/stories. This is non negotiable. Stories each month must be a MINIMUM of 3 thousand words and a MAXIMUM of 10,000 words and authors can determine themselves how long each story will be within these parameters.  Once a proposal is accepted, a series will not debut until the first three installments are submitted to Pro Se Productions.  Depending on sales, each series may be collected at the end of its digital run as a single novel/collection.

As previously stated, any genre is acceptable for submission.  Preference will be given to stories that move quickly and keep a reader engaged. Authors with skill in writing serialized tales and/or recurring episodic work are encouraged to submit. Please do not propose serializing works that were originally completed as a novel.  Newly written works aimed at being a 12 chapter/episode series are preferred.

This is a royalty only project, with the author of each accepted series receiving 50% royalties for the entire run of the series and, if collected, the resulting book/collection. If a writer submitting a proposal has not previously submitted to Pro Se before, proposals must include a four page writing sample.

Known for cutting edge concepts, Pro Se Productions opens submissions for the first anthology in a proposed new line of collections. Proposals are now being accepted for TWO ALONE: THE WEST.

“History,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “is full of the type of people that make great characters in stories. Heroes, villains, and more often than not those types that are shades of both and not quite either. In no era was this more true than in the heyday of the American West. The concept behind TWO ALONE as a line of anthologies is taking a list of characters from a particular time in history, that list consisting of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ guys, as they’ve been portrayed over time, and pairing up two of them in an adventure, in a story together. Our intent with this line is to have authors take historical figures that likely never met in real life and team them up…or set them against each other, but have them function in some capacity together in a story. Pro Se will provide the list of available characters for each volume, but the authors will be required to do their own research and allowed to set up the story in almost any way they wish. And, as I said before, no time in history is more ripe for this sort of thing than the Wild West, so we are excited to start there in our first volume.”

Stories for TWO ALONE: THE WEST must be 8-10 thousands words in length. A 1-3 paragraph proposal fully outlining the story concept must be submitted and approved, then the story completed within 90 days of proposal approval. This is royalty paying project with the final percentage for authors determined by final number of authors in the book. Book will be published when Pro Se determines enough stories have been collected, with the target being 60,000 plus words.

The stories for this volume must utilize TWO of the following characters as co-leads in the tale-Ben Thompson, Annie Oakley, Luke Short, Doc Holliday, John Wesley Hardin, Clay Allison, William Bonney, Belle Starr, Bass Reeves, Jesse James, Tom Horn, Wild Bill Hickok, Bat Masterson, Wyatt Earp, Gratton Dalton, Sam Bass, Kid Curry, Butch Cassidy, Johnny Ringo, Boone Helm, Cherokee Bill, Henry Starr, Nat Love, Calamity Jane, and Harry Tracy. 

All stories must be set within the lifetimes of the lead characters and must be written without fantastic, science fiction, or fantasy elements. Also, the two characters used in stories must have been not known to have historically interacted regularly (This eliminates Wyatt Earp from being teamed up with Luke Short, Doc Holliday, or Bat Masterson, for example). Also, the stories cannot include anyone else from the above list, only the two lead characters the author chooses to use.
