Based in Batesville, Arkansas, Pro Se Productions has become a leader on the cutting edge of New Pulp Fiction in a very short time.

Pulp Fiction, known by many names and identified as being action/adventure, fast paced, hero versus villain, over the top characters and tight, yet extravagant plots, is experiencing a resurgence like never before. And Pro Se Press, publishing New Pulp since August, 2011, is a major part of the revival, one of the reasons that New Pulp is growing by leaps and bounds!

Pro Se is the place to find Super Heroes, Explorers, Fairies, Werewolves, Men's Men, and Femme Fatales.  Specializing primarily in prose books, anthologies, and magazines, Pro Se has made a commitment to 'Put the Monthly Back into Pulp' and continues to do that successfully, producing at least one New Pulp work every month!  

Pro Se is an innovator in New Pulp, continually refining its presentation and product and working on exciting new veins of New Pulp to bring to readers and fans of all ages everywhere!

Submission Guidelines

PRO SE PRODUCTIONS is closed to unsolicited submissions of any sort (novel/digest/collection) UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

pro se productions is closed for UNSOLICITED SUBMISSIONS FOR PRO SE SINGLE SHOTS until FURTHER NOTICE.  

PRO SE PRODUCTIONS WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE OPEN CALLS FOR SOLICITED ANTHOLOGIES/COLLECTIONS/NOVELS.  AUTHORS WISHING TO SUBMIT TO THESE PROJECTS SHOULD FOLLOW THE 'WRITERS WANTED' PAGE ON THIS SITE.

What Does Pro Se Publish?

With its focus on Genre Fiction and New Pulp, Pro Se is interested in works of all lengths and types that meet the following requirements-

  1.  For example, Pro Se will publish a Western, but will also publish a Western Fantasy, a Weird Western, a Western Romance, etc.

  2.  Although wall-to-wall action is not a requirement, the plot must move briskly and the storytelling be engaging.  A balance must be struck between characterization and plot.

  3.  If the work is not the original creation of the author, then licensing agreements and other documents will be requested if necessary.

  4.  Pro Se currently only publishes fiction.  Nonfiction will be considered on a case-by-case basis. 

Pro Se Productions DOES NOT Accept Simultaneous Submissions.

What Does Pro Se Pay?

Pro Se Productions is a royalty paying Publisher.  Each author for Pro Se earns a royalty on every dollar made from the sale of books he/she is a part of.  The royalty percentage is negotiated with each writer and/or per project.  

Pro Se Proposal/Query Submission Guidelines

In order to expedite the process of reviewing of queries and proposals of works to be considered for publication by Pro Se the style guide for Queries/Proposals for Pro Se is as follows

1.     Real Name

2.     Pen Name (if preferred to be published under said name)

3.     Email Address

4.     Phone Number

5.     Mailing Address

6.     Title of Query/Proposal in the following format- PROPOSAL TO PRO SE PRODUCTIONS-(TITLE OF PROPOSAL)

7.     Explanation of Concept being queried/proposed no shorter than three paragraphs, no longer than three pages.

8.     Expected word length of finished product

9.     Preferred format for publication if accepted (Novel, Digest, Anthology/Collection)

10.  Writing Sample (If previously unpublished with Pro Se Productions

Pro Se Manuscript Submission Guidelines

In order to expedite the process of reviewing, editing and publishing accepted works the Pro Se Productions style guide for submissions is as follows:

For all Short Stories of 10,000 words or less, please include the following:

AUTHOR INFORMATION (Page 1)

1.     Real Name (for contracts)

2.     Pen Name (if preferred to be published under said name)

3.     Email Address

4.     Phone Number

5.     Mailing Address

6.     Number of words contained in manuscript

7.     Title of manuscript

BIOGRAPHY INFORMATION (Page 2)

1.     If the story is accepted, we will require a short biography of one to three paragraphs.

MANUSCRIPTS (Pages 3 to end)

For Short Stories, unless otherwise denoted, all short story formatting should be as follows:

1.  Single page number, aligned in top right of header

2.  One inch margins

3.  Title should be centered, bolded and underlined

4.  No Indent at strike of new paragraph

5.  Times New Roman, 12-Point Font

6.  Single space

7.  Double space between paragraphs

8.  If chapter titles are included, they should be centered, bolded and underlined.

9.  Please refrain from bolding dialogue. Whereas it is appropriate for comics of all flavors, for these submissions we would prefer italics.

For all submissions, acceptable formats are .doc, .docx, .rtf, and .wpf. These include all Microsoft Word® Documents, Wordperfect Documents and Rich Text Files.

 

For all novellas and novels of 15,000 words or more, please include the following:

 Please allow for 30 days for response if your submission is unsolicited.  The time frame is typically shorter than that, but expect 30 days please.
