PRO SE OPENS SUBMISSIONS FOR NEMO COMICS EVENT ANTHOLOGY- PREPARE FOR ACTION, ADVENTURE AND FUN IN ‘NEMOVERSE’

Pro Se

Two independent publishers, each one hailing from a different medium, announced a licensing partnership in July.  Pro Se Productions, a cutting edge Genre Fiction and New Pulp Publisher, revealed that it had licensed characters from Nemo Publishing, a company centered around the work of Jay Piscopo and aimed at bringing both classic fun and action back to comic books.   Pro Se announces today that the first anthology to feature Nemo characters is now open for proposals and submissions from authors.  Featuring the primary lineup from Nemo Publishing, the book will be entitled Nemoverse.

Nemoverse,” states Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions,” says it all.  This is an opportunity essentially to have the keys to the kingdom, one that really stands out from every other attempt at comics today.  Jay and the people at Nemo have taken these fantastic characters- Capt’n Eli, Commander X, the Sea Ghost, Jack Danger, Red Panther, Rogue Agent Zero, the Dimensioneers, and all the supporting cast that comes with them- and really breathed both a fresh new life and one that is reminiscent of the reasons comics first became so popular.  Four color escapism at its best is what Nemo does and now Pro Se gets a chance to do the same in its own inimitable two fisted, heroic style.”

Nemo Publishing is the home of Capt’n Eli, Commander X, and a variety of other characters.  Originally a mascot for Capt’n Eli Soda, the owners of the soda company saw potential for the character beyond its beginnings.  In partnership with artist/writer/creator Jay Piscopo and Nemo Publishing, Capt’n Eli became a four color hero and soon other characters, some reimagined public domain characters and others completely Piscopo’s original creations, joined the Nemo Comics Universe. Nemo also has a toyline featuring its characters.

Nemoverse will be a Pro Se Event Anthology. This special format veers away from the company’s usual three to six person anthology and aims at having 12 to 15 authors and stories in the collection.  Final format and royalties, however, will be determined by the final number of submitting authors accepted by Nemo and Pro Se staff.

Stories for Nemoverse must be 6-8,000 words in length. The process for submission to this anthology is as follows: An author must email editorinchief@prose-press.com and express interest in submitting to the collection.  Brief synopses of the available characters will be sent to the author at that point.  Upon reviewing the list, a proposal of 100-500 words must be submitted to submissions@prose-press.com for the character(s) the author is interested in writing.  Although these characters have crossed over with one another various times in Nemo publications, Pro Se is interested in tales focused on the individual characters and want team ups to be necessary, not simply for the joy of doing them.

Character bibles for the Nemo lineup will be completed by the End of August and available to approved authors at that point. Authors not previously published by Pro Se Productions must submit a writing sample of at least two pages with their proposals. Authors whose proposals are accepted must submit the first four pages of their accepted stories as quickly as possible for review by Pro Se staff. Final deadline for completed stories is December 1, 2014.

Nemoverse is scheduled for release in December 2014/January 2015.

For questions related to the submissions call or to learn more about this project, contact Morgan McKay, Pro Se’s Director of Corporate Operations, at directorofcorporateoperations@prose-press.com.

PUBLISHER BRINGS FOUR COLOR UNIVERSE TO GENRE FICTION- NEMO PUBLISHING LICENSES CHARACTERS TO PRO SE PRODUCTIONS

Pro Se

Known for bringing properties from other media to the printed page, Pro Se Productions announces the licensing of a cast of characters already featured in comics, toys, and a coloring book, and one that even began his life as a soda mascot.  Nemo Publishing, based in Maine has licensed characters to Pro Se to feature in prose novels and anthologies in the near future, characters including the popular Commander X, Sea Ghost, and Nemo’s star attraction, Capt’n Eli.

Capt'n Eli

Capt'n Eli

“We are always looking, “ says Pro Se Editor in Chief and Partner Tommy Hancock, “for properties outside the prose world that are screaming to be adapted.  And ever since I read my first Capt’n Eli adventure, not only was I hooked as a reader, but I was eager to test the waters to see if the Capt’n and his dog and parrot and the rest of the crew might end up between Pro Se covers.  As Jay Piscopo and Nemo continued to fill out that universe, bringing in characters like Commander X, Sea Ghost, and then adding Jack Danger, the Red Panther, and others, it seemed like the ideal time to see about adding those fantastic concepts to the work Pro Se is already doing.  Add the fact that Jay Piscopo is one of the most innovative, creative people I’ve met while in this business, and this was something I wanted to make sure Pro Se explored.”

Commander X

Nemo Publishing is the home of Capt’n Eli, Commander X, and a variety of other characters.  Originally a mascot for Capt’n Eli Soda, the owners of the soda company saw potential for the character beyond its beginnings.  In partnership with artist/writer/creator Jay Piscopo and Nemo Publishing, Capt’n Eli became a four color hero and soon other characters, some reimagined public domain characters and others completely Piscopo’s original creations, joined the Nemo Comics Universe. Nemo also has a toyline featuring its characters.

"It's just an incredible thrill and honor,” says Piscopo, “to be working with Tommy and Pro Se. I've been a fan of Pro Se for years, so it's great the Capt'n Eli/ Nemoverse and some of my other properties can find a home in prose with them."

The first Pro Se volume featuring the Nemo Publishing characters will be an event anthology entitled ‘Nemoverse’. The call for the anthology will open in a matter of days.

A MINOR GLIMPSE INVITES AUTHORS TO TRAVEL “IN ANOTHER’S SHOES” WITH NEW ANTHOLOGY CALL FROM PRO SE PRODUCTIONS

Pro Se

An innovator in Genre Fiction, Pro Se Productions and its newest creator imprint- A Minor Glimpse, centered around the concepts of creator Morgan McKay- announce an open call for a new anthology.  Authors are invited to walk the road not taken, travel paths beyond the norm, and see where their feet take them In Another’s Shoes.

A MINOR GLIMPSE Creator Morgan McKay

A MINOR GLIMPSE Creator Morgan McKay

A pair of shoes can tell a thousand stories--Where they've been, what they've seen. This anthology is centered around one of the most useful tools mankind has created. What if You were given the chance to change your life, just by changing the shoes you wore?  Trading in your wingtips for cowboy boots.  Hanging up the flip flops and sliding into stilettos.  And what if that simple act, that change, altered your life completely?  Took you from the streets of New York to the medieval moors of England. Whisked you away from Topeka, Kansas to a land beyond the clouds.  What story would those shoes tell? What ground have would they tread upon? Where would they take you?

“Everybody wants a second chance, an option to take the road less travelled,” says Morgan McKay, Pro Se Director of Corporate Operations, and the creator A Minor Glimpse is built around. “Tales from all over the world have centered around this idea. Glass or fur slippers make a princess—Winged boots make a mythological god fly. So why couldn’t a pair of seemingly harmless shoes inspire something incredible?”

The stories in this anthology must involve the act of the central character putting on a different pair of shoes and that pair of shoes altering the character’s life significantly.  The shoes can be magic, alien technology, or simple shoes that somehow irrevocably alter the path the wearer was on.  These must be genre tales and be fast paced and both plot and character driven.

In Another’s Shoes must be 10,000 words in length. A proposal of 100-500 words must be submitted to submissions@prose-press.com. Authors not previously published by Pro Se Productions must submit a writing sample of at least two pages with their proposals. Authors whose proposals are accepted must submit the first four pages of their accepted stories as quickly as possible for review by Pro Se staff. Final deadline for completed stories is 90 days following acceptance of proposals.

In Another’s Shoes is scheduled for publication in 2015 by Pro Se Productions.

THE NEW ADVENTURES OF THUNDER JIM WADE VOLUME TWO – A STAND ALONE DIGEST NOVEL- DEBUTS FROM PRO SE’S PULP OBSCURA IMPRINT!

Pro Se

An independent publisher of cutting edge Genre Fiction, Pro Se Productions announces the debut of the latest volume in one of its most popular imprints featuring the return of an extremely well received character- The New Adventures of Thunder Jim Wade Volume Two: The Horror of Hyperborea by Frank Schildiner.

In 2012, Pro Se, in conjunction with Altus Press, a renowned publisher of quality reprints of classic Pulps as well as New Pulp, began Pulp Obscura, a line of anthologies and books that featured classic, often forgotten pulp characters in new tales by today’s best writers.  With the release of Horror of Hyperborea, Pro Se and noted Genre Fiction Author Frank Schildiner bring back one of the most popular characters featured in the Pulp Obscura imprint.

“Thunder Jim Wade,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of and Partner in Pro Se Productions, “was most definitely a Doc Savage clone when originally created.  But even in his five original adventures, there was enough difference and hints of individuality to show that Jim could stand as a character in his own right.  Our first Thunder Jim Wade collection has definitely proven that, being one of our most popular Pulp Obscura titles. And now, with Frank Schildiner bringing his skill and talent to not only another Thunder Jim Tale, but a stand alone digest novel with more planned in the future, I definitely feel like Thunder Jim is well on his way from being an obscure character from the past to one of the most anticipated and popular characters of Pulp today.”

Under the pen name of Charles Stoddard, legendary science fiction author Henry Kuttner created Thunder Jime Wade, who was raised in a hidden valley by descendants of an ancient Cretean society. Armed with a secret of making a special metal alloy that brings him fabulous wealth, Thunder Jim wade makes his home on a mysterious island hidden in the heart of the South Pacific!

Climb aboard the fabled Thunderbug and join this Titan of Adventure and his friends, Dirk Marat and Red Argyle, as they continue their ongoing mission to eradicate evil.

A madman’s desperate quest for a fabled lost civilization! A brilliant scientist kidnapped! A menace unimaginable! These are fragments of a greater mystery that sets Thunder Jim Wade on a collision course with The Horror of Hyperborea!

“Writing legendary pulp hero Thunder Jim Wade,” says Schildiner, “was a true joy and I look forward to the many tales to come for this fantastic hero!”

From out of the Past comes a new tale of a Hero who strikes like thunder!  Featuring stunning artwork by Mike Fyles, The New Adventures of Thunder Jim Wade Volume Two: The Horror Of Hyperborea is available on Amazon and at Pro Se’s own store at http://tinyurl.com/k4xzr23 for $9.00 in a print edition formatted and designed by Sean Ali.

This latest Pulp Obscura volume is also available as an ebook designed and formatted by Russ Anderson for $2.99 via Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and www.smashwords.com.

AWARD WINNING AUTHOR ADAPTS GRINDHOUSE HOMAGE FILM-SEARCH FOR THE BEAST-AS PRO SE DIGEST NOVEL

Pro Se

A leading Publisher of Genre Fiction and New Pulp, Pro Se Productions announces a new licensed property to be added to its catalog, one that harkens back to the grindhouse era of drive in movies.  Although this style of film has been revisited by mainstream directors in recent years, screenwriter and director Rick Montana made an homage to 1970s exploitation films in 1997 with Search for the Beast.  And now, the film considered to be the worst ever made by some critics while being a fan favorite worldwide online and at conventions has been adapted into an over the top New Pulp adventure by one of Genre Fiction’s best writers.

Rick Montana as Dr. David Stone

Rick Montana as Dr. David Stone

Search for the Beast,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of and Partner in Pro Se Productions, “can only be described as a 1970s grindhouse movie made in 1997.  It’s one of those films that recognizes the material that inspired it and not only strives to emulate that same atmosphere, but literally goes above and beyond, becoming an experience like no other.  What appealed to Pro Se about this is that it has all the elements of a really out of this world New Pulp tale, with feet planted as firmly in the ‘Weird Tales’ camp as they are in the ‘70s exploitation movie arena.  It’s got a hero out to find the monster and try to protect humanity from it while possibly saving it.  It’s replete with characters that could only exist, until now, on an outdoor movie screen late at night in the 1970s. And then there’s the Beast itself.  All of those elements and more make this movie not only a prime candidate for an adaptation, but I knew exactly who could make this not only a great novelization of the movie, but something in its own right, a New Pulp tale that stands well with others it.  And man, has Derrick Ferguson ever done that.”

Author Derrick Ferguson

Author Derrick Ferguson

Search for the Beast follows Dr. David Stone, an honorably discharged Army Ranger and expert on Bigfoot.  When asked to investigate the death of a victim of an alleged ‘Beast’ in the Okaloosa wilderness, Stone leads an expedition into the wilderness, accompanied by his graduate assistant, Wendy. What follows is a hunt for a mythical monster while very human beasts stalk Stone and his team. And as the Professor fights for his life against a crazed horde of outdoorsmen and rednecks, they all come closer to a bloody, violent end in their Search for the Beast.

“A neat part of this process,” Hancock continues, “was being involved as Derrick took a character Rick had established on the screen and added meat to a rather unique skeleton.  By the nature of the type of film ‘Search’ is, there is very little characterization on-screen.  Derrick takes the threads of Stone and the others and gives them a life all their own, making them as fully realized as characters translated from Grindhouse to New Pulp can be. This book not only works as a great companion piece to this legendary film, but stands on its own as a wild madcap action adventure.”

Search for the Beast adapted by Derrick Ferguson based on the film by Rick Montana will be available from Pro Se Productions in late 2014.

“Tall tales,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “are familiar in some form or fashion to every American, and some even have a worldwide presence.  And they lend themselves really well to being wrapped in the Pulp style and taken to another level.  Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyan, John Henry, Mike Fink, and more already stand well as over the top characters taking on insurmountable odds.  It makes perfect sense to throw six top notch Genre Fiction authors at these wonderfully realized characters and see what works of art they paint using a Pulp Fiction style brush.”

Tall Tales.  Stories of larger than life characters, heroes who stand above everyone else and perform great feats.  From digging the Grand Canyon to reversing the flow of the Mississippi River itself, there are figures woven into American history and lore that seem ready made for the classic Pulp magazines of yesteryear! Now, today’s best and brightest writers of Genre Fiction take those classic legends and shine a new light on them.  Pro Se Productions proudly presents Tall Pulp.

Thrill as characters like Jim Bowie, Joe Magarac, Anne Bonny, and Mike Fink come to life in two fisted action adventure tales!  Learn of the mysterious Leatherman and thrill to his wild adventures! And discover a whole new take on the concept of Paul Bunyan! Authors D. Alan Lewis, Gordon Dymowski, Nancy A. Hansen, Phillip Drayer Duncan, David White, and Greg Daniel take characters, both historic and fictional, and give them a treatment like no other.  Tall Pulp from Pro Se Productions.

AUTHOR SIGNS WITH PRO SE FOR SCIENCE FICTION STORY COLLECTION- A. STUART WILLIAMS’ RINGS AROUND THE SUN’ DUE IN 2015

Pro Se

A leading publisher in Genre Fiction, Pro Se Productions announces the signing of up and coming Author A. Stuart Williams. Pro Se will publish Rings Around the Sun, a story collection by Williams featuring Bob Howard, ex commander of the Solar Federation, Williams’ own character, recently published in a Pro Se anthology.

“One thing,” says Tommy Hancock, Pro Se Productions Editor in Chief and Partner in the company, “that we look for is an author who can tell a good story.  Stuart does that with such an enthusiasm and passion that every word pops off the page. Combine that with the fact that he writes hard boiled science fiction, a mash up of sorts that very few can pull off well, as if it were the easiest thing in the world and it’s a foregone conclusion that Pro Se would love to have him be a part of what we do.  And with Rings Around the Sun, he brings us the further adventures of Bob Howard, a character who we hope will be fighting his way through the spaceways for years to come here at Pro Se.”

A. Stuart Williams is an English writer, photographer, historian and journalist living in the region of England, which inspired J. R. R. Tolkien's dark land of Mordor - the 'Black Country'.  Fascinated by science fiction, sword and sorcery, weird pulp, alternate history and latterly steampunk since the 1960s, he grew up reading British  reprints of classic US pulps and Golden Age science fiction.

Previously published in factual magazines (computing, astronomical, photographic, historical), newspapers and the author of several local history books, Stuart initially trained as a commercial photographer before working in newspaper publishing, finally becoming a professional local historian and journalist.  He is now working on a second career as a Science Fiction, New Pulp, and Steampunk author. Currently working on a number of projects, Minor Planet Mambo is his first  science fiction story for Pro Se. Numbering Arthur C. Clarke, E. E. 'Doc' Smith, Robert E. Howard,  Robert A. Heinlein, H. P. Lovecraft, H.G. Wells and Jules Verne amongst his influences, Stuart believes that “What if?” is the most amazing question of all.

“I was really pleased,” says Williams, “to find my first outing in New Pulp, Minor Planet Mambo, being published in such good company in Pro Se Productions recent action-packed anthology Rat-A-Tat: Short Blasts of Pulp.  It’s a great book and to be seen it is a ‘wow moment’ for me.

“Now I am,” continues the author, “quite literally, ‘over the Moon’ to be asked to sign a contract with Pro Se Productions after sending them a proposal for a book based on ‘Minor Planet Mambo’.  Rings Around the Sun will be a collection of old-school ‘hard-boiled space opera’ – kind of ‘Hammett meets Heinlein’ – stories recounting the earlier career and adventures of the short story’s hero, Commander Bob Howard of the Solar Federation Space Patrol.  It’ll be a blast!”

Rings Around the Sun is currently scheduled to be published in June 2015 by Pro Se Productions.

HEROIC PUBLISHING’S SHINING GODDESS OF LIGHT FLIES INTO PRO SE PRODUCTIONS- OPEN SUBMISSIONS CALL FOR ‘FLARE’ ANTHOLOGY

Pro Se

In October, 2013, LIBERTY GIRL by Barry Reese debuted from Pro Se Productions. This digest novel was the first work from Pro Se  to feature characters licensed from Heroic Publishing, a force in independent comics since the mid 1980s.  Pro Se recently announced a second LIBERTY GIRL book, an anthology, to be in progress and today opened calls for a multi author anthology featuring another of Heroic’s best known characters-Flare.

“Flare,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of and Partner in Pro Se Productions, “is a character that is almost as Pulpy in a lot of ways as she is a straight up Super Hero concept.  You have a stunning young woman who is actually the result of Nazi experimentation and was originally created to destroy America’s heroes, but rebelled and became a hero herself.  Throw into that the over the top villains she’s faced along with the myriad of mythological mayhem and there is all sorts of potential for great genre mashup fiction in the best New Pulp style. And that’s what we want this to be- a fun roller coaster ride of excitement and thrills with Flare leading the way.”

Stories for the FLARE Anthology must be 10,000 words in length and must adhere to the continuity established for Flare by Heroic Publishing.  A biography on the character is available at http://www.heroicmultiverse.com/heroicpub/flare/history.php?ch=arcane.  Also, over five hundred pages of a webcomic featuring Flare is available as well at http://www.heroicmultiverse.com/flare/webcomic/.

A proposal of 100-500 words must be submitted to submissions@prose-press.com no later than August 15th, 2014. Authors not previously published by Pro Se Productions must submit a writing sample of at least two pages with their proposals. Both Heroic Publishing and Pro Se Productions will approve these proposals before acceptance. Final deadline for completed stories is 60 days following acceptance of proposals.

FLARE is scheduled for publication in late 2014 from Pro Se Productions.

CLASSIC FORGOTTEN FILM COWBOY RIDES AGAIN AT PRO SE PRODUCTIONS-CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, a Genre Fiction Publisher known for reviving forgotten or obscure characters in new stories, announces an open call for an anthology centered on a movie cowboy from the 1930s.  Herb Jeffries, singer and actor, portrayed cowboy crooner Bob Blake in three films. Known as The Bronze Buckaroo, the title of the second of the three Blake films, the character stands out as the first notable African American cowboy on the silver screen.    Pro Se Productions proudly announces plans to build an anthology around Blake containing all new stories in The Adventures of The Bronze Buckaroo.

“The story of The Bronze Buckaroo,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief and Partner in Pro Se Productions, “could be told one of two ways.  First, it could spotlight the creation of the character and the three films that featured him and focus on the fact that these were African American productions featuring African American actors and actresses at a time when that was nearly unheard of.  Herb Jeffries came to be identified with the character so much that he wore the sobriquet the rest of his life.   There’s a fantastic tale about those films and that time period waiting for someone to spin.

“Then,” continues Hancock, “there’s what Pro Se plans to do.  Even though the three movies were B type Singing Cowboy pictures, the character of Bob Blake stands out as a classic character, the cowboy who rides into help someone and even when he finds himself in trouble, still manages to stay on the right side of the law.  Jeffries pulled off this stock character as well as any of his contemporaries, including Roy Rogers and Gene Autry.  And the fact that he is a series character adds to Pro Se’s desire to keep telling the tales of the Bronze Buckaroo.”

It is not lost on Pro Se Productions, however, the further significance of the character. “What we hope to do with the Buckaroo,” says Hancock, “is similar to the difference between the Hopalong Cassidy books and the Hoppy movies.  We definitely plan to keep the continuity, what of it there is, the three movies establishes as well as the spirit of the character.  He’s a strong, morally good character who is on the side of right.  We also, however, want to be realistic.  That is, Bob Blake is an African-American cowboy in the early 20th Century, so all that that entails should be utilized in these stories as the authors see fit. Also, we’ll be looking for an authentic portrayal of Blake and other characters as cowboys, men of the range who lived by the gun and the saddle.  Hats don’t stay clean and shirts pressed on the frontier.  We hope to receive stories that pay homage to the Buckaroo movies, but are not pastiches of this really neat character.”

The three Bob Blake films were Two-Gun Man From Harlem (1938), The Bronze Buckaroo (1939), and Harlem Rides the Range (1939).  Although they are considered westerns, the time period which they, especially the later two, take place in is somewhat murky.  This was not uncommon in the B-westerns of this type.  For the purposes of the collection, the stories may be set anywhere from 1935 until 1941, allowing that Bob Blake was cowboying at least a few years before the first film.

“This,” explains Hancock, “gives authors a really distinctive opportunity and offers something cool for readers as well.  Because of the nature of the stories these films told, it’s possible to have gun slinging cowpokes side by side with gangsters and the more modern types of the 1930s. It's the wonderfully strange little world these B-westerns from that era created, a world where one side of the country was barreling toward the future in cars while the other chose to stay in the past on horseback.  The possibilities with both are really promising for exploring either traditional western tales or stories that mix crime, intrigue, and mystery in with sagebrush and sixguns.”

Hancock also notes that for this collection, unless proposing authors indicate a reason otherwise, The Bronze Buckaroo will operate out of a ranch in California in the Apple Valley.  This has a connection to the history of the films as they were all filmed at an African-American ran dude ranch in the Apple Valley.

A proposal of 100-500 words for inclusion in The Adventures of the Bronze Buckaroo must be submitted to submissions@prose-press.com by August 31, 2014.  Accepted stories must be 6,000 to 10,000 words. Authors not previously published by Pro Se Productions must submit a writing sample of at least two pages with their proposals. When proposals are accepted and the collection filled, final deadline for completed stories will be determined and relayed to all accepted authors.

The Adventures of the Bronze Buckaroo is planned, at this stage to be one of Pro Se Productions’ Event Anthologies, that being a collection longer than the company’s usual 30 thousand word digest novels and 60 thousand word trade paperback volumes.

All three Bob Blake films starring Herb Jeffries are available on Youtube for viewing.

SUBMISSIONS OPEN BY LEADING GENRE PUBLISHER FOR ANTHOLOGY LED BY NOTED AUTHOR- ‘KIMBERLY RICHARDSON’S PULP GOTHIC’

Pro Se

An innovative Publisher of Genre Fiction, Pro Se Productions announced an open call for submissions to an anthology that not only expands the boundaries of modern Pulp fiction, but does so under the guiding hand of one of today’s most skilled and inventive authors.

The company is now taking submissions for stories to be included in Kimberly Richardson’s Pulp Gothic.

“It may seem,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “a bit strange to put the writing style of Pulp Fiction together with the Gothic genre, but not as much as you think.  As with any type of story, gothic tales have as much potential to bloom darkly and thrive in the hands of a writer applying Pulp to the process as any other genre.  The term ‘Gothic’ invokes certain images, massive medieval buildings, a pervasive sense of impending doom and coming horror maybe, and characters bedeviled by beasts and monsters, internally as well as externally.  Take that and mingle in the pacing of Pulp fiction, the focus on a strong plot building evermore to an explosive climax, and remember that Gothic and Pulp characters both have a certain grandiosity about them, then the pairing works on every level.

“Combine that,” Hancock continues, “with the fact that the ramrod on this project is none other than The Goth Librarian herself, we simply can’t miss.  Kimberly Richardson is not only a talented writer, but she has one of the most unique creative voices in fiction today.  She also has the wonderful ability to take her ideas, pulled wholesale from her evocative imagination, and turn them into genre spanning tales that not only thrill and chill, but also induce emotional responses from readers.  As she brings all of that to bear on her shepherding of this anthology, I have no doubt this collection will become one of Pro Se’s flagship titles.”

To be considered for inclusion in Kimberly Richardson’s Pulp Gothic, stories may be set in any time period.  Those submitting proposals should be familiar with the Gothic genre enough that the submitted concept, regardless of how pulpy the writing style is, contain multiple aspects and points that set it apart as ‘Gothic.’

“The Gothic world,” says Richardson, “has appealed to me ever since I saw the vampire film Fright Night many, many years ago. For every Light, there must be a Dark and both are due equal amounts of respect. In being a Gothic author, I find that the Darkness has much to offer and my imagination can run wild with what lurks in the shadowy corner that beckons you to step ever closer. Fear not the Dark and embrace it, for it is a part of us all . . . “

A proposal of 100-500 words for inclusion into this collection must be submitted to submissions@prose-press.com by August 10, 2014.  Accepted stories will be required to be approximately 10,000 words in length. Authors not previously published by Pro Se Productions must submit a writing sample of at least two pages with their proposals. Authors whose proposals are accepted must submit the first four pages of their accepted stories as quickly as possible for review by Ms. Richardson and Pro Se staff. When proposals are accepted and the collection filled, final deadline for completed stories will be determined and relayed to all accepted authors.

Kimberly B. Richardson considers herself an eccentric woman with a taste for jazz, drinking tea, reading books, speaking rusty French and Japanese, playing her violin and writing stories that cause people to make the strangest faces. Her first book, Tales From a Goth Librarian, was published through Dark Oak Press and named a Finalist in both the USA Book News Awards for Fiction: Short Story for 2009 and the International Book Awards for Fiction: Short Story in 2010. Ms. Richardson is also the author of The Decembrists and Mabon/Pomegranate as well as the editor of the award winning Steampunk anthology Dreams of Steam and the award winning sequels Dreams of Steam II: Of Brass and Bolts, Dreams of Steam III: Gadgets, Dreams of Steam IV: Gizmos and the upcoming Dreams of Steam V, as well as Realms of Imagination: an Urban Fantasy Anthology, all published through Dark Oak Press. Ms. Richardson is also a contributor to the anthologies Black Pulp and the upcoming Asian Pulp, both published through Pro Se Productions, as well as a contributor to other collections and publishing houses. She is also the Programming Director for Memphis Comic and Fantasy Convention, a sci-fi convention held in Memphis, Tennessee.
