PRO SE PRODUCTIONS DEBUTS FRESH NEW VOICE IN FANTASY IN ‘LIFTING THE VEIL: TALES OF DISCOVERY AND MAGIC’

Pro Se

A leading independent Publisher of Genre Fiction, Pro Se Productions announces the release of a story collection featuring the work of one of the freshest, most vibrant new voices in Fantasy fiction.  LIFTING THE VEIL: TALES OF DISCOVERY AND MAGIC is the first book to exclusively feature the work of author J. H. Fleming.

“Fantasy,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “is such a wide and varied genre.  So many authors claim their corner of Fantasy and turn out their epic tales or their urban fantasy stories or two fisted pulpy type fantasy yarns.  In LIFTING THE VEIL, J. H. Fleming proves that she doesn’t have to claim a corner.  From double barreled action to insightful characterization to creating wonderful settings where anything can happen, J. H. makes fantasy her own.  Working in aspects of other genres at times, such as steampunk, she literally takes hold of what fascinates readers about Fantasy fiction and delivers it in every single story in LIFTING THE VEIL.

In the Empire, rebellion is stirring, threatening everything the people have ever known. In a forgotten castle, a woman watches the world as the centuries pass, leaving her unchanged. In a forest temple, a young priestess finds the courage to choose her own path. On a high mountaintop, a Dreamer teaches his apprentice the true art of Dreaming. And on the dark streets of a coastal city, a young woman seeks revenge for the past. Enter worlds where things are not always what they seem, and the price of power could be your very life. This and more awaits readers in LIFTING THE VEIL; TALES OF DISCOVER AND MAGIC.

"The stories in this collection,” says Fleming, “explore some common questions: what is it that drives us? When put to the test, what kind of person are we? Do we forgive those who have wronged us, or do we seek revenge? Do we stand by those we love, or seek our own agenda? If required, can we forsake the life we have for the possibility of something better?"

Find imagination and adventure in LIFTING THE VEIL: TALES OF DISCOVERY AND MAGIC, an exciting collection featuring stunning cover art by Jeff Hayes, logo and cover design and print formatting by Percival Constantine, available in print for $9.00 at Amazon and Pro Se’s own store at http://tinyurl.com/p23tf9v.  The collection will be available as an Ebook at various outlets in the coming days.

NEW PRO SE SINGLE SHOT SIGNATURE SERIES DEBUTS-'THE NIGHT THE JACK O'LANTERN WENT OUT'

Pro Se

An innovative independent Publisher of Genre Fiction and New Pulp, Pro Se Productions releases the debut story in Author Alexander S. Brown’s series entry into the Pro Se Single Shot Signature line of digital singles.  Experience every scare, prank, and trick of Halloween in a whole new, even terrifying way in Brown’s THE NIGHT THE JACK O’LANTERN WENT OUT.

“Everybody has,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “Halloween memories.  And most of them are filled with candy, treks down dark neighborhood streets amid a parade of outlandish outfits and garish masks.  I think most people have a cautious adoration for this holiday focused on both tricks and treats. And I say ‘cautious’ because I also think we also have some primal urge that lets us know that Halloween isn’t just about knocks on the door and porch lights.  There’s a greater significance to it, an aspect of not knowing what is coming out of the shadows.  Could it be a fun loving prankster? Sure.  But Alexander S. Brown captures in these stories the fact that it could also be a soul grabbing ghoul.  And either way, he keeps the reader glued to every word.”

Halloween.  A holiday that inspires memories, excitement, and a little bit of fear in everyone.  A single day where all the ghosts and ghoulies come out to play and sometimes its hard to tell which of the creepy crawlies are human and which ones truly rise from beyond seeking unsuspecting souls. Author Alexander S. Brown explores all the wonderfully terrifying possibilities Halloween has to offer in his Pro Se Single Shot Signature Series- THE NIGHT THE JACK O’LANTERN WENT OUT!  Each month Brown delivers a new tale of terror laced with just enough nostalgia that makes us all hope Halloween comes soonerand stays far enough away that the monsters don’t get us!

Brown’s first story, THE NIGHT THE JACK O’ LANTERN WENT OUT, tells the tale of a Halloween prankster, an old legend, and what happens when the two clash when night falls one October 31st.

THE NIGHT THE JACK O’ LANTERN WENT OUT by Alexander S. Brown, with cover and logo design by Jeff Hayes, utilizing the Pro Se Logo created by Sean E. Ali, and Ebook design and formatting by Russ Anderson is available for  only 99 cents at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, www.smashwords.com, and other ebook outlets.

GENRE FICTION PUBLISHER DELIVERS TWO FISTED FLASH FICTION IN ‘RAT-A-TAT: SHORT BLASTS OF PULP

Pro Se

An innovative Publisher of Genre Fiction, Pro Se Productions announces the release of one of its most interesting collections yet. Multiple genres get the Pulp treatment in stories of three thousand words or less in Rat-A-Tat: Short Blasts of Pulp.

“Flash Fiction,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “is a rather ‘flashy’ term for what has also been called the short-short story.  Although we usually are looking for longer tales, it’s an interesting proposition to see if Pulp authors can deliver the same thrills and chills in a much shorter format.  Rat-A-Tat is definitely proof that not only can it be done, but the crew of authors we wrangled into doing it for this collection deliver with both barrels in every single story.  Variety abounds in the pages of this multifaceted anthology of flash fiction done right.”

Like Bullets from a Tommy Gun, Pro Se Productions delivers Pulp like no one else in Rat-A-Tat: Short Blasts of Pulp

Today’s best Genre Fiction authors pull their fedoras down tight, charge their laser blasters, and barrel full speed ahead into Rat-A-Tat. LATEST TITLE FROM PRO SE PRODUCTIONS’ HANSEN WAY IMPRINT TAKES FLIGHT- WINDRIDERS OF EVERICE!

Pro Se

Nancy Hansen is one of the leading voices in New Pulp Fantasy today and Pro Se Productions proudly announces the debut of the latest volume from Nancy’s creator imprint, Hansen's Way, with the company- Windriders of Everice.

“Nancy,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “has not only been with Pro Se since our doors basically opened, but she’s also grown to be one of the most beloved authors of New Pulp Fantasy.  With the world building skills of an epic fantasy author, Nancy also captures the action packed, thrill a minute aspect that so many Pulp Fantasy authors are known for.  And with her own imprint, her very special world comes screaming into life.  Windriders of Everice not only once again proves Nancy’s fantasy chops, but it’s also a fantastic example of just how well Nancy builds characters as well as the worlds they live in. She lets the reader get to know the people she’s creating and that’s a talent that’s wonderful to have, especially when writing Pulp Fantasy.”

The small, mountainous realm of Everice is crumbling, both physically and financially. Queen Astrea—once a powerful enchantress—had set magick aside to rule her homeland with her dynamic and restless horse lord husband. Now widowed and recently remarried, she struggles to hold on to her throne in a time when the harvests are lean, the countryside seethes with unrest, and fell creatures are coming through the major pass they guard. The light of her life is dead, and her new consort is a bold schemer with plans for radical change. Her eldest child, the crown Princess Neoma, is far more interested in horses and swordplay than politics and intrigue.

An almost empty treasury means there is little coin to spare toward the upkeep of Neoma's dwindling stable. While the stubborn young woman still envisions Everice someday having a mounted contingent, of what practical use are cavalry in such rugged heights?

Desperate to honor her beloved father's memory, Neoma strikes out on her own to find some way to make their once mutual ambition a reality. She will stop at nothing, including seeking out a heretical monk who collects items of enchantment; though accepting his counsel will force her to choose a path beyond familial honor and duty. Along the way, Neoma finds a brand new purpose in life as the leader of an aerial brigade, and watches her motley group of misfit and outcast youngsters become a fighting force to be reckoned with.

These are the stories of The Windriders of Everice!  By Nancy A. Hansen, courtesy of Hansen's Way and Pro Se Productions.

Featuring a beautiful cover and logo by Jeff Hayes and print formatting and cover design by David Foster, Windriders of Everice is now available at Amazon and in Pro Se’s own store at http://tinyurl.com/mxgu8v7 for $12.00  This collection is also available as an ebook with digital formatting and design by Russ Anderson at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and www.smashwords.com for $2.99

PRO SE PRODUCTIONS INVITES AUTHORS TO GO TROPICAL WITH NEW SUBMISSIONS CALL- ‘CRIME DOWN ISLAND’

Pro Se

Known for pushing the boundaries of Genre Fiction, Pro Se Productions issues an open call for submissions to its latest crime/mystery anthology.  Palm trees, beaches, and all the heat one can handle is what Pro Se seeks for Crime Down Island.

“Everybody loves a good island story,” says Tommy Hancock, Pro Se Editor in Chief and Partner in the company.  “Tales from the South Seas, adventures in the Caribbean, intrigue in Key West, it doesn’t matter.  Island tales are fun romps of action and excitement for fans of genre fiction.  Throw crime into that and you have a powder keg of Pulp and Danger ready to explode.  From fedora wearing transplants from the North hiding out until the heat is off to homegrown criminals and cops roaming the beaches, crime finds its way to the tropics.  So it fits that Pro Se would go ‘down island’ for some great crime fiction

Crime Down Island stories must be set from 1900 forward to the modern day.   No magic, paranormal, or extraordinary devices may be worked into the story. Having said that, depending on the locale, religious and superstitious beliefs that appear to be paranormal or magic can definitely be utilized as a part of the tale.  Stories for this volume may be straight up mysteries with the lead characters being policemen, detectives, etc. Stories may also and are encouraged to focus on those who commit crimes, the villains or the island ‘gangsters’ that may be committing crimes.  Stories can be Noirish, Hard Boiled, or any style appropriate.

Crime Down Island must be 10,000 words in length.   A proposal of 100-500 words must be submitted to submissions@prose-press.com.  Authors not previously published by Pro Se Productions must submit a writing sample of at least two pages with their proposals. Authors whose proposals are accepted must submit the first four pages of their accepted stories as quickly as possible for review by Pro Se staff.  Final deadline for completed stories is 90 days following acceptance of proposals.

Crime Down Island is scheduled for publication in late 2015 by Pro Se Productions.

PRO SE OPENS SECOND VOLUME OF ‘HIGH ADVENTURE HISTORY’ TO WRITERS-‘HISTORY’S HEROES’

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, a leading Publisher of New Pulp, announces today an open submissions call for a second volume of one of the company’s anthologies.  Narrowing the focus for the second collection, Pro Se Productions invites writers to submit proposals to  High Adventure History: History’s Heroes.

“The response,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “to the first High Adventure History volume has been good and interesting as well.  We’ve had a lot of compliments on the book as it is, but also probably just as many requests for a follow up volume that features fictional high adventure tales starring actual historical figures.  And that, quite simply, is what High Adventure History-History’s Heroes is meant to be.”

High Adventure History-History’s Heroes can be set in any time period up until 1900 and must feature as the lead character an actual historical figure.   No magic, paranormal, or extraordinary devices may be worked into the story and the stories must have a ‘high adventure’ quality, that meaning that these are not mysteries or political intrigues, but tales that place the hero in perilous situations on a quest of some sort or battling odds that he or she has little chance of surviving.

Stories for High Adventure History-History’s Heroes must be 10,000 words in length.

PRO SE PRODUCTIONS OPENS SUBMISSIONS CALL FOR UNIQUE MYSTERIES-‘THE CASE OF THE DEFECTIVE DETECTIVE’!

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, a leading publisher of Genre Fiction and New Pulp, opens a new anthology for submissions today. This collection will focus on Private Investigators, sleuths, and gumshoes who are different in their own way in ‘THE CASE OF THE DEFECTIVE DETECTIVE’.

“The Defective Detective story,” says Tommy Hancock, Pro Se Productions Editor in Chief, “is a neat little sub genre in that really big ocean of mysteries and such. And it’s been around a long time, most recently best shown in TV’s ‘Monk’. It’s intriguing to read a story where the hero has to solve the mystery and yet has something he or she has to overcome to do so, even to survive at times. The mystery is still the key element, but the personal challenge adds a bit of, well, character to the character.”

The Case of the Defective Detective can be set in any time period up to the modern era. These can be mysteries of any type, but must clearly be mysteries/detective stories. The key element is that the featured detective have some sort of challenge that he or she faces personally, be it a medical condition or something else that typical detective heroes do not have to deal with.

Stories for The Case of the Defective Detective must be 10,000 words in length. NEW ANTHOLOGY CALL FROM PRO SE PRODUCTIONS- ‘HARD BOILED SPORTS!’

Pro Se

Known as an innovative publisher of Genre Fiction and New Pulp, Pro Se Productions announces an open call for an anthology that takes a very popular genre-Sports Fiction- and serves it up as tough as possible- Hard Boiled Sports.

“It may seem strange,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “to have an anthology like this, but think about it.  There have always been aspects to Sports, especially the professional variety as welll as how we see sports figures in movies, books, etc. that lend themselves to being able to tell a hard boiled tale in that world.   Tough, two fisted boxers, conceited over the top ball players, hard bitten coaches and ex players, and the list goes on of who writers could pick from to pour through that hard boiled prism.  Crime, drama, intrigue, deceit, and more abound in Sports, or at least we all think they do and have for awhile.  This anthology almost writes itself.”

Hard Boiled Sports can be set in any time period up to the modern era, but stories focusing on the 20th and 21st Centuries will be given preference.  Stories may focus on any sport, but there must definitely be a ‘hard boiled’ feel and theme to the story.  Pro Se Productions will be seeking this as well as the inclusion of sports primarily.

Stories for Hard Boiled Sports must be 10,000 words in length.

PRO SE PRODUCTIONS INVITES AUTHORS TO SAIL THE HIGH SEAS IN TERROR WITH ’PIRATES AND MONSTERS!’

Pro Se

An independent publisher of Genre Fiction, Pro Se Productions announces an open call for its latest anthology. The company is now taking submissions for stories that combine two of popular culture’s most beloved characters in the appropriately title collection Pirates and Monsters.

“Fascinated,” says Tommy Hancock, Pro Se Productions Editor in Chief, “doesn’t begin to describe the way fans feel about pirates or monsters.  These two character types not only appeal to a varied amount of people, but they’re also an interesting study to themselves. Similar on several levels in some ways, pirates and monsters stand on the outside of society and often are told to have done some fairly cruel stuff.  But also there’s that tendency that we have to cast characters in certain lights, so both have qualities that play to the hero as well as the villain.  This anthology gives authors a chance to explore a few facets of this and have a cutlass rattling, fang gnashing good time doing it!”

Pirates and Monsters can be set in any time period up to the modern era, but stories set in the 18th-19th Century will be given preference due to this being an appropriate era for pirates.  Also, although there may be sea serpents and the like in the stories, the ‘monsters’ referred to in the title should run the gamut, from vampires to werewolves and beyond.  Stories may focus on pirates fighting monsters and vice versa OR may be about monsters who are pirates.

Stories for Pirates and Monsters must be 10,000 words in length.

NEW PULP DELIVERED HARD AND FAST- ‘PULSE FICTION’ DEBUTS FROM PRO SE PRODUCTIONS

Pro Se

Known as an innovator in New Pulp and Genre Fiction, Pro Se Productions proudly announces the release of the first volume in a new series two years in the making. Want stories that will get your heart racing, your blood pumping?  You’ll find them in Bishop and Hancock’s Pulse Fiction Volume One, available now from Pro Se Productions.

Pulse Fiction,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “is the brainchild of Paul Bishop.  Known for his work in the crime field as well as being one of the major forces behind the Fight Card creator’s collective he’s built, Paul is also a fan of classic Pulp Fiction!  The sort of books where several characters were featured, each one in an adventure designed to top the one before it! So, Paul pitched the idea of doing a series where there was a set pool of characters that authors could utilize and tell stories with.  Not every character would recur in every book, but they’d all make the rounds, showing up whenever a writer felt the urge to tell a story with them.  He had a handful of characters in mind and I threw in a motley crew of a few of mine and Pulse Fiction was born.”

A two fisted, gun toting Private Eye!  A Member of the French Foreign Legion waist deep in Intrigue!  A Lady with a taste for Diamonds and Danger!  Heroes many have thought lost to yesterday now blast their way into today in Bishop and Hancock’s Pulse Fiction!

Pulse Fiction takes the best of the past and shakes and stirs it with today’s finest Genre Fiction writers. Encounter a cast of characters created by Bishop and Hancock and written into four color, over the top life by Eric Beetner, Barry Reese, D. Alan Lewis, Brian Drake, James Hopwood, and Hancock.  Just like the bygone magazines of the past, Pulse Fiction brings rich, vibrant characters embroiled in death defying adventure to readers, characters that will return in later volumes crafted by these and a whole myriad of other authors.

“This,” says Hancock, “is not simply a homage to the classic Pulp tradition or those digests from the 1950s and 60s.  Although these stories are definitely ‘pulpy’ in every sense of the word, they also ring with a modern resonance and relevance. These tales are certainly products of the past as well as the present and the authors we’ve gathered blend the two effortlessly.”

Bishop And Hancock’s Pulse Fiction Volume One is available in print at Amazon and through the Pro Se Store at http://tinyurl.com/n2jyob2 and features a fantastic cover by Jeff Hayes with cover design and print formatting by Percival Constantine for only $12.00.  The collection will be available in digital format in the coming days.

COMING IN JUNE FROM PRO SE PRODUCTIONS- GHOSTS OF DERIDIAN!

Pro Se

Pro Se Production, an innovative Publisher of Genre Fiction, announces the first volume of a new Science Fiction series to debut in June.  GHOSTS OF DERIDIAN by authors Morgan McKay and Tommy Hancock is the first adventure of perhaps the most unique pair of characters in Science Fiction today.

The cityplanet of Deridian boasts the largest and most varied populace of any orb in ten galaxies.  It is also home to the Deridi, six strange figures of energy, the only actual native beings of the strange world.   And now the six live as gods at the top of Deridi Tower at the heart of the cityplanet.

And in the shadow of Deridi Tower’s glimmering brilliance lies the decadence and depravity known as The Valley.  A kaleidoscope of alien cultures and markets during the day, the network of streets and derelict slavehouses transforms into a maniacal nightmare of danger and crime as the moons rise.

In the Valley, anything can happen to anyone.

A boy, a human outcast, once a slave and now known as ‘The Terror of the Valley’ at age fifteen.   A girl, a member of a proud, yet warlike insectoid race hated by nearly every soul in the known universe, cut off from her own people.  Both of them alone in the most horror ridden section of the cityplanet.  Until one is accused of murder and the other threatened with death because of her race.  Now two solitary souls are fugitives together, trying to find a way out.

And all the while, images of The Deridi shine from the top of the tower above them.  Looking down on them like ghosts, watching as two strangers unravel the secret that may destroy an entire cityplanet

GHOSTS OF DERIDIAN by Morgan McKay and Tommy Hancock features the debut of Sajay and Niles, a duo like few others in Genre Fiction.  Equal parts science fiction thriller and coming of age story, this first volume in a new science fiction series from Pro Se Productions exposes readers to a world where being different is the only chance for survival.

Featuring a fantastic cover by Jeff Hayes and logo design and cover formatting by Percival Constantine, GHOSTS OF DERIDIAN will be available in June 2014 from Pro Se Productions.

PRO SE OPENS SECOND VOLUME OF ‘BLACK FEDORA’ TO WRITERS-‘GANGSTERS ONLY’

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, a leading Publisher of New Pulp, announces today an open submissions call for a second volume of one of the company’s anthologies.  Narrowing the focus for the second collection, Pro Se Productions invites writers to submit proposals to  BLACK FEDORA: GANGSTERS ONLY.

“America loves gangsters,” says Tommy Hancock, Pro Se Editor in Chief and Partner in the company. “At least they love them as characters in stories.  And we’re talking about the traditional gangster, the guy in the fedora with the Tommy gun in his hands, the moll on one arm, and every badge in the world out to get him.  From the 1920s through the 1940s, the image of the American criminal in the public’s minds often dressed well, carried themselves with a certain panache, and had a sort of swagger.  But, in reality they were cold blooded killers, ruthless men who mixed business and murder like bartenders mixed martinis.  We want both in these stories, the style and the substance of the classic gangster.  It’s a fitting focus for a follow up volume of BLACK FEDORA.”

BLACK FEDORA: GANGSTERS ONLY stories must be set between 1925 and 1949 and must deal with gangsters as perceived in that time frame.  Stories must take place in the United States primarily, although scenes in other countries may be included as well.  No extranormal influences or situations are to be included in these stories, such as magic, super powers, the paranormal, etc.  These stories must focus on a central character as well and that character must be a gangster of some sort as previously described.

Stories for BLACK FEDORA: GANGSTERS ONLY must be 10,000 words in length.

PRO SE INVITES AUTHORS TO GO TO THE STARS IN ‘PROJECT: MOONBASE!’

Pro Se

An innovative publisher of Genre Fiction and New Pulp, Pro Se Productions announces an open submissions call for stories set on that celestial body that man has been fascinated with for centuries.  Tales of colonization and adventure are requested for an anthology entitled PROJECT: MOONBASE.

Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of and Partner in Pro Se, states, “The moon has been a source of awe and inspiration for as long as the human eye could comprehend it most likely.  And the concept of living on the moon, of traveling from the Earth and setting up some sort of civilization on that hunk of rock is probably just as old.  Most definitely, we know that the idea of a moonbase, of settling on the moon, has been a staple of science fiction in the past.  PROJECT: MOONBASE will not only revisit that trope, but invites authors to make it their own.”

PROJECT: MOONBASE stories must take place fully on the moon and must deal with human beings attempting to colonize or successfully colonizing the moon.   As for time period and use of alien races, there is no restriction.  Pro Se Productions would like to see some ‘traditional’ submissions of moonbase stories; domed cities, astronauts setting up their settlements, and so on. But Pro Se Productions is also open to unique takes on the concept, as long as the basic conceit of it taking place on the moon and being an attempt to colonize by Earthlings is also included.

Stories for PROJECT: MOONBASE must be 10,000 words in length.

PROJECT: MOONBASE is scheduled for publication in late 2015 by Pro Se Productions.

SUBMISSION CALL OPEN FOR MEDICAL ACTION AND SUSPENSE FROM PRO SE PRODUCTIONS-CHECK INTO ‘PULP MEDICAL’!

Pro Se

An innovative publisher of Genre Fiction and New Pulp, Pro Se Productions announces an open submissions call for stories full of action and adventure set in the medical profession.   PULP MEDICAL is now open for proposals.

Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of and Partner in Pro Se, states, “Everybody loves a good doctor story.  If you don’t believe me, do your research and you’ll find physicians have found themselves heroes in stories for centuries.  Pulp Fiction had its fair share too as well as radio, TV, and just about any other form of entertainment you can imagine.  PULP MEDICAL will be the title where Hospitals become the scene of the crime, the site of the hostage situation, the next frontier of adventure and exploration, or whatever the writers want.   We’re definitely after Pulp tales, but instead of cops and masked avengers, we want the men and women skilled in the art of healing in the spotlight. PULP MEDICAL has the potential of being one of our most exciting, varied anthologies to date.”

PULP MEDICAL will only feature stories set in a hospital and with Doctors or nurses as the lead character(s).  The tales must be set from 1900 to 2014.  Stories may also include supernatural or fantastic elements, but the collection will not exclusively feature one genre of tale.  Mystery, horror, crime, drama, and any other applicable genre is possible for stories in this volume.

Stories for PULP MEDICAL must be 10,000 words in length.

PRO SE INVITES AUTHORS TO RIDE THE TRAIN WITH MURDER IN LATEST ANTHOLOGY-‘AND THE WHISTLE SCREAMED: MURDER ON THE RAILS’

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, a leading Publisher of Genre and Pulp Fiction, opens a submissions call for a collection spotlighting mystery and mayhem in a genre often forgotten by modern readers-railroad fiction.   AND THE WHISTLE SCREAMED: MURDER ON THE RAILS is now open for submission.

“From ‘Murder on the Orient Express,’” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of and Partner in Pro Se, “to ‘Narrow Margin’ and beyond, audiences have always had an interest in mysteries on trains.  And Railroad fiction, never as strong as most of the other genres, still was a viable arena for stories and has a following today.   What we’re looking for in AND THE WHISTLE SCREAMED is a story that equally shows itself as a murder mystery, but also clearly displays itself as a train story.  This will be a book of true Railroad Tales as much as it will by a collection of mindboggling murder mysteries."

Stories for AND THE WHISTLE SCREAMED: MURDER ON THE RAILS must be set on a train and must involve a murder.  The time period can be any year in which trains have existed up until the modern era. Although this is largely a mystery collection, other types of stories, such as noir, may also be considered as long as the stories remain solidly set in a ‘real’ world; no science fiction, fantasy, or fantastical characteristics will be allowed.

Stories for AND THE WHISTLE SCREAMED: MURDER ON THE RAILS must be 10,000 words in length.

PRO SE SINGLE SHOT SIGNATURE DIGITAL LINE DEBUTS WITH ‘JAKE ISTENHEGYI, THE ACCIDENTAL DETECTIVE’

Pro Se

An innovative independent Publisher of Genre Fiction and New Pulp, Pro Se Productions proudly announces the debut of the first series in its highly anticipated Pro Se Single Shot Signature line of digital singles.  Mystery, magic, and madness come together explosively in author Nikki Nelson Hicks’ ‘A CHICK, A DICK, AND A WITCH WALK INTO A BARN, the first tale in Hicks’ JAKE ISTENHEGYI, THE ACCIDENTAL DETECTIVE series.

“This story,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “is the ideal tale to kick off our Single Shot Signatures.  Not only does Nikki bring all the right tropes to bear for this sort of story to work, but she does exactly what Pro Se seeks to do.  Jake Istenhegyi is a character that is equal parts classic Pulp type hero and modern sensibilities all rolled into one Hungarian package.  The action never stops, but there’s also a resonance within this tale informed by today.  All that not only makes this story sing like a well used Tommy gun, but it makes Jake Istenhegyi a guy to watch.”

What did my partner, Bear, tell me over a million times? “Never let yourself get trapped, kid, always, always, ALWAYS have a way out!”

And, yet, here I am, sitting on my ass, in a dirty shed, pressed up against a wooden crate with my feet holding shut the only thing between me and the clucking, scratching, screaming horde from hell outside that wants to kill me.

So, this is me, Janos ‘Jake’ Istenhegyi, and this is how it all ends. I escaped the clutches of the Nationalist Socialist Party in my homeland of Budapest to die in a dirt shack of a crazy voodoo queen, covered in shit and the blood of my best friend, torn and beaten by chickens.

It’s a hell of a way to spend a birthday.”

Thus begins the new Single Shot Signature Series from Pro Se Press: Jake Istenhegyi, The Accidental Detective.

When Jake Istenhegyi inherited a used bookstore in New Orleans, he thought he had finally found a haven. Thousands of miles away from the political unrest in Budapest as well as his mother’s Gypsy clan, that had hounded him since he was a boy. Here, he could hide away and spend his days reading and drinking coffee in peace and quiet.

The American Dream come true, right?

Then he rented out a room to Barrington “Bear” Gunn, WWI vet and aspiring gumshoe who dreamed of living the life of his pulp heroes, Spade and Marlow. Bear bartered his services to people in very low places and, in the end, pulled Jake down with him, enrolling him in a business that never goes out of business: fighting evil.

Jake never wanted adventure or mystery.  He’s always been allergic to things that go AAAARGH in the night. They make him break out in blood. And not always his blood.

They do in Author Nikki Nelson-Hicks’ A CHICK, A DICK, AND A WITCH WALK INTO A BARN, the first in Hicks’ Pro Se Single Shot Signature Series featuring her original character, Jake Istenhegyi, The Accidental Detective.

A CHICK, A DICK, AND A WITCH WALK INTO A BARN by Nikki Nelson-Hicks, with cover and logo design by Jeff Hayes and Ebook design and formatting by Russ Anderson, is available for 99 cents at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, www.smashwords.com, and other ebook outlets.

OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS-PRO SE TAKES FLIGHT WITH ‘ALTERNATIVE AIR ADVENTURES!’

Pro Se

Known as an innovative publisher of Genre Fiction, Pro Se Productions reveals plans for an anthology that has its roots in Classic Pulp Fiction, but with a twist. The company announces open call for submissions for its very unique Flight tale collection, ALTERNATIVE AIR ADVENTURES.

“Flying Pulps,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of and Partner in Pro Se Productions, “were extremely popular in the classic era of Pulp Fiction. From G-8 to Dusty Ayers to Richard Knight and beyond, aviators figuratively flew into a very special place with Pulp fans. And although ALTERNATIVE AIR ADVENTURES in part does want to recapture that feel, we’re also looking for something different.

“Imagine,” continues Hancock, “that the Wright Brothers never built their airplane. Or that no airplane or helicopter, for that matter, ever got off the ground. And I mean that quite literally. What we want for ALTERNATIVE AIR ADVENTURES are stories that look at a world where flight has indeed been achieved, but neither by anything resembling an airplane or a helicopter. Zeppelins, hot air balloons, and many other things definitely fit the bill and that’s what we want in these tales. It can be set as early as the mid 1800s all the way through today and must center around an aviator type hero. Just no planes or whirlybirds allowed. ALTERNATIVE AIR ADVENTURES is an opportunity for authors to really break loose and for all sorts of premises to come in. Of course, steampunk, dieselpunk, and the like all spring to mind, but we expect to see some extremely creative takes on the curveball we’ve thrown with this collection.”

ALTERNATIVE AIR ADVENTURES will feature stories set from approximately 1860 to the present day. The central hero must be an aviator of some sort and air travel/flight must be a significant part of the story. Airplanes and helicopters are off limits for use and Pro Se Productions may disqualify any proposal for hewing too close to using airplanes or helicopters. These stories may include supernatural or extraterrestial elements, BUT the mode of flight that is featured in each tale MUST be feasible scientifically, not utilizing any alien technology, mystical machinations, or other extranormal means of activity.

Stories for ALTERNATIVE AIR ADVENTURES must be 10,000 words in length.

ALTERNATIVE AIR ADVENTURES is scheduled for publication in mid to late 2015 by Pro Se Productions.

PUBLISHING COMPANY OPENS CALLS FOR SUBMISSIONS, ASKS WRITERS TO EXPLORE FIRSTS AND LASTS IN ‘ORIGINS & ENDINGS’

Pro Se

Pro Se Productions, a cutting edge Publisher of Genre Fiction, announces an open call for submissions to a uniquely themed anthology-ORIGINS & ENDINGS.

We all love,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of and Partner in Pro Se Productions, “origin and death stories.  It’s true.  As much as fans may say they don’t, everyone likes to know where their heroes and villains start and definitely whatever end they may come to.  It’s the perfect theme for an anthology.  Whether it be a hard boiled PI, a weathered cowboy, or a god in spandex, whatever type of character you can imagine, they all have first and last stories.  And fans love them for all sorts of reasons.  Discovery, emotion, purpose, resolution, revelation, and more.  ORIGINS & ENDINGS is designed for just that purpose-to give readers the first adventures of some characters and  the last hurrah of others.”

ORIGINS & ENDINGS will contain an equal number of first stories and last stories.  The tales must be ‘Pulp’, in that they should be well paced plot driven tales with larger than life characters.  Stories must either be the first adventure of the character or the final story of the character the author chooses to use.  Characters can either be original and introduced in this anthology or they can be the proposing author’s existing characters already published elsewhere.  If using an already established character, the story written for this volume MUST BE original to this work, no reprints or shallow rewrites of already existing stories allowed. Also, the stories in this volume will not be flashbacks, but the actual first or last escapades of the character involved.

Stories for ORIGINS & ENDINGS must be 10,000 words in length.   A proposal of 100-500 words must be submitted to submissions@prose-press.com.  Authors not previously published by Pro Se Productions must submit a writing sample of at least two pages with their proposals. PRO SE PRODUCTIONS INVITES WRITERS TO SUBMIT FOR ‘PULP AT WAR’!

Pro Se

A publisher of Genre Fiction and New Pulp, Pro Se Productions announces an open call for submissions for an upcoming anthology featuring soldiers, battles, tactical strategy, and more.  Harkening back to a classic story trope from the early 20th Century, Pro Se opens up for proposals for PULP AT WAR!

“We’ve had requests,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se, “since we started doing anthologies for a War book.  Not one that was populated with futuristic battle or focused on ancient armies attacking one another, but a collection reminiscent of Armed Forces stories in the pulps, comics, and movies of the early to mid 20th Century.  And it’s a popular subgenre, in times of war and peace.   Hollywood built a whole wing of its dream factory around John Wayne and other stars putting on fatigues and hoisting the flag high above their heads.   PULP AT WAR gives authors the chance to write those sort of tales, but opens up the venue to any war from World War I forward.  Having said that, though, we don’t want spy stories or mysteries masquerading as war tales.  These must be stories focused on the soldier, from the every day grunt living and dying for his or her country to the General who rides into battle ahead of the troops.  Whatever the plot, these will be stories about the soldier in battle.”

Proposals for PULP AT WAR must be focused on soldiers in actual armed conflicts taken from history.  Beginning with World War 1, any known War or military action can be used as the setting and the central character(s) must be enlisted in the Armed Forces in some form or fashion.  Also, no supernatural/extranormal elements may be included in the stories.  The tales in this collection must be reality based fiction.  Also, the Wars in question as well as the soldiers spotlighted do not have to be conflicts involving the US or necessarily United States forces.

Stories for PULP AT WAR must be 10,000 words in length.
